Evening watch guru's!

I am currently deliberating a new watch purchase and torn between the two in the links below.

Being an indecisive sort a bit of feedback wouldn't go amiss, being as there are a lot of watch obsessives that post on PH it seemed a logical place to start.

http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/2943948/ra...

http://www.ernestjones.co.uk/webstore/d/1958011/ta...

Will be purchasing new and preferably from a physical store.
Residual values aren't too much of a concern, so that won't really form part of the decision - probably as well given the two selections above will likely plummet in value!

Essentially looking at something with a fairly traditional look ( i.e. uncluttered dial circa 39mm - you have women's wrists m'lord ) and these both seem to fit the bill.

Tried both today and am probably leaning toward the Rado really, you don't see many of them about and its hard to ignore the price difference when they probably share the same ETA movement?
That said, the Tag does feel a little better on the wrist and I can't help thinking Rado are aimed at a slightly more "mature" audience than I think ( possibly deludedly laugh) of myself at 37.

Decisions, decisions...

Of the two, the TAG will make you look less like a retiree. Neither is a particularly well thought-of maker though.

I'd prefer this.

I like your style.

The Rado is lovely, as is the longines in the reply.

I prefer the Heuer branded tags. The Carrera models are cool & good VFM.j

For example.

Expect c10% discount for cash / debit card at EJ too.

The Rado did nothing for me

If it has to be Earnest Jones then I'd look at

Again not my most favourite design but sort of appears similar to your taste

Not that I'm biased in any way

I do like Ball, shame there isn't anywhere local that stocks them (deepest, darkest Devon) as would be nice to compare one to the others. Although the model in the EJ link is perhaps a little bit too mature!
That titanium Rado looks very tempting tho.
Had a look at Longines and certainly not averse to one, just didn't see one locally that stood out when looking this afternoon and prefer batons to numerals. Think I may need to broaden my horizons and go for a drive someplace with a larger choice.
Purchase won't necessarily be from EJ, was just convenient for copying links. Only real stipulation is that it's from a physical store.

As a teenage oik I saw an advert for a Rado Ceramica and really liked it. Knew nothing of watches really but when I was 23 I went and got a Chronograph XL. Have worn it 24/7 for nearly 7 years (other than for the odd battery/service and I take it off if swimming) and I couldn't be happier smile

Was surprised to find Rado are held in such low regard, but it suits me fine as nobody knows who they are so it has no 'brand image' associated with it amongst people I generally meet. If a watch person considers me to be wearing an elderly Indian man's watch then I can live with that hehe

Personally I really like some of their designs (certainly not all!) and given it looks practically as new after 7 years of abuse (on my right wrist too) I'm very impressed with it.

Rado are only held in a low regard by the same type of people who sprout out that Tag are crap.

Yes they dont make their own movement and are likely to be quartz watches, but the wife and i have a ceramic each. Ive owned mine for 20 years with limited use and not a mark on it, the wife has owned hers for two years but wears it daily for work, again not a mark on it.

People need to realise that a good watch does not always mean an in house movement it can sometimes just mean a watch which is fit for the persons purpose.

I'm not so sure that Rado aren't held in high regard as in people think they're crap though it would be fair to say that they're not spoken much of. They have a history of case material innovation and have certainly gone their own way with regards to their rather divisive design language, and I say that as a modern DiaStar owner.

OP - if you're not bothered about resale value then just get out there and try them on.

Edit - just re-read your post, sounds like you have already had them on your wrist.

I'd take a Rado over a Tag.
Really like the scratch proof designs. One day I'll get one of the ceramics, but for now I too have a Diastar. Mine is a '65 chronometer, with a faceted crystal, tungsten carbide case and NSA strap. 51 years old & not a mark on it. Rado make good watches.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Rado and their use of materials has been quite innovative. Rado isn't discussed a lot on watch forums; that's not the same as being held in low regard. It just means that Rado isn't a forum darling.

Iconic watches have a physical store but its in Lancashire so not convenient really.
Is it you want to physically buy from the shopfront or that you want a shop that has a traditional shopfront?

I've already been browsing their stock list for inspiration, as they do seem to get recommended fairly frequently.
Certainly not on my doorstep, although do have family in Lancashire so do find myself close to their shop occasionally, will very likely pay them a visit if i haven't sorted by the time i next head north later this month.
I'd like to be able to see it and pick it up there and then ideally, hence the preference for an actual shop rather than purchasing via the web - it's part of the fun!
