Im not a watch expert… and I know Christopher Ward watches are sometimes sneered at for being “copies” of more expensive watches… but theres one particular one that I really like – the C700 Grande Rapide:
http://www.thewatchreviewsite.co.uk/chr-ward-c700-...

I had been umm’ing and ahh’ing about getting one when they had their sales, then they discontinued them about 2 years ago. I think the leather strap version was about £850, then went up to ~£900 just before they stopped making it.

Ive found one second hand for £600 – assuming its in good condition (and I would view before parting with cash) is that a fair price? If not, what would you expect it to be worth?
Anything I should be looking out for, either generally for that sort of watch, or anything specific to that model/brand?

I joined the CW forum, but you need 30 posts before you can even view the for-sale board, so i cant do much research as to what they would go for 2nd hand...

Thanks for any advice!

Something is only ever worth whatever anyone is prepared to pay for it, but the last one that sold (presumably where you’ve found this one), was up at £550 BIN, back in August.
There’s not much any of us can say, other than offer a price of what it’s worth to you – if the seller won’t budge, then leave it and wait for another one to come up or buy something else that does match with your negotiated valuation.

I've got a £50 and a £100 voucher for CW if you're interested. I own one and my brother owns one. Quality bits of kit without the silly price

Thanks for the offer, but I also have the vouchers (I'm on the magazine mailing list). I really wanted the C700 Grande Rapide, but I see they have the C60
Tridents reduced at the moment, and this for just over 400 notes is tempting:

Trident with black face, orange bezel and rubber strap. I'm tempted with the trident 600 chrono. Just sold two oris divers watches so I'm on the hunt for a new watch

I have a few of their watches; I think their 5 year movement warranty and customer service makes an excellent used buy proposition. Also, their service prices are quite reasonable.

The C700 is a fairly rare item to come up second hand, so it's difficult to price. As far as I can see, the last one on eBay went for £640 after 3 bids.

I think that's a fair price for a 7750 based watch that isn't a copy of something else, and could well be still under warranty. CW warranty is transferable, you MUST have the warranty card that is the back cover of the handbook, or the original invoice from CW. An original CW document to tie up the watch serial number with the original sale date.

The sales section of the forum is good; I have bought and sold on there from time to time and not had any problems at all. Having said that, don't expect to see a lot of C700s for sale! A one-make sale board isn't going to have a lot of traffic.

Yeah, i think that was the one i was watching on ebay - and prior to that another one sold (also on ebay) for £550. Still, i have some benchmark valuations now, so will keep my eyes peeled in case another comes up. Cheers for the general info on the watches too.

Buy what you like, is the best guidance.

No point having an AP, JLC, Omega or Rolex if you don't enjoy wearing it!

CW watches are good for the money, maybe less than they used to be, Steinhart are the benchmark VFM these days, but nearly everything they make just looks like a Rolex Sub, which I can't live with (I have a Steinhart Apollon, which is one of the exceptions and I like it very much).

I have a CW C11 Makaira which I quite like as a divers watch, it's a bit different (although someone pointed out it's rather like a B&R of some sort). I had an orange/black Trident, but I just never wore it - I think they look awesome in photos (CW are very good at the images they use to market their watches), but somehow it never really felt or looked as good on my wrist, but I sold it for more or less what I paid, so no harm, no foul.

I also had a C6 Kingfisher in yellow, but I've given up on yellow dialled watches as I love the way they look, but never wear them! biggrin

I don't know if I'm a victim of the snobbery against them or whether there's something actually about the watches, but the ones I've had have never felt genuinely high quality for the money, there's always seemed an air of being built to a budget about them, but I'm hard pressed to point to a specific issue with them and, at 50% off, I've less of a quibble with the Makaira than the Trident.
