I'm sure this has been covered before, but what is the best way to make sure our watches are insured properly?

I have a decent Hiscox home insurance policy which i imagine would cover me (don't need to name any items upto £15k)

Or is a dedicated policy the best way to go

Thanks!

I also have Hiscox, although I thought the individual value was higher than that.

If it's covered then it's covered! Just keep the receipt safe and have a couple of pics taken just in case the worst happens and you need to claim.

Would that cover you if it was stolen in a mugging ?

Hadn't really thought about watch insurance to this point and I think it's something I am going to need to arrange sharply.

For anybody who can't get Hiscox insurance (they won't cover my Central London flat!):

I've got my Rolex insured on M&S Home Insurance - you can add an extra which covers any valuables (which don't have to be specified), up to a £10k limit, away from home, anywhere in the world. Was much, much cheaper than a separate watch policy.

this reminds me, i need to get on to my home contents insurer to run some scenarios with them. I'm concerned about gaps in cover and wondering whether I should insure separately. Just insuring the item for the appropriate value is not enough, it's the conditions of payout (or lack thereof) that concern me.

Make sure you have all risks cover and if you travel it covers you abroad, all risks is for items outside of the home and doesn't normally come as standard.

Also if you do insure valuables separately you still need to declare this to your home insurer as it is a material fact.
Cheers, this policy also has added accidental loss/damage, covers contents away from home for 60 days and they do ask for the total value of any watches / jewellery as a separate concern so should be all good.
