Out of interest...like what? When you talk about 'blowing' cash do you mean things you'll have nothing to show for? When it comes to things to blow cash on...collectibles like watches aren't a bad shout as they lose value relatively slowly and sometimes appreciate. Lots of people who bought watches in the past few years could no doubt sell for a healthy profit into Europe given the current exchange rate.

Anyway I would probably try to buy the best tropical patinated blue faded bezeled Rolex Sub that money can buy.

So what is it derived from? Genuine question.

It is a great watch. I was lucky enough to visit the Laurent Ferrier atelier last year and meet the man himself (as you probably know he spent many years at Patek, which is about 200m from his workshop, and raced at Le Mans coming in third, so he is all good with me smile
Wow that really is quite the CV! A very nice trip to make.

Looks like a modern version of my Elgin. The Dennison case on this is 1920s.

The case style is derived from modern Panerai Radiomir styling, which is derived from some of their legacy products which were actually Rolex oyster cases and movements with custom dials.

Why does someone spend £5000 for their family to spend two weeks getting burnt on a lilo? Pointless!

Why do some people have a wall full of diecast model cars, collected over the years and must have cost them hundreds if not a thousand, only to make the room look like a child's bedroom? Nincompoops!

Why were some people paying hundreds of pounds for new £5 notes with an "AA" in the serial number? Madness! Even crazier than stamp collectors.

Why did I spend a few thousand on a 35 year old car, just to use on summer weekends when it's not raining? What sort of twerp throws his hard earned around like that!

Why go to a Michelin starred restaurant when you can get 80% of the flavour at 10% of the cost from a chain restaurant? Don't get me started on the cost of the wine/whisky/vodka when Tesco's own brand would do.

Why buy that expensive vintage cabinet or oil painting when you can get something from Ikea? Who are you trying to impress?

I could go on!
You fail to grasp my point though.

I am more impressed that someone would choose this...

over this...

Id buy a Rolex GMTII and spend the rest on a deposit for another house..... or is that too sensible?

As I believe George Best said; "I spent most of my money on booze and women - the rest I just squandered..."

Dunno. Cars, more cars, nice house, some holiday houses, a tropical island - stuff that made a difference to how and where I live my life. But I guess if you're a watch person, that's what a watch can do for you. I'm glad I don't get it as the last thing I need is another expensive obsession.

Simple, elegant, and ridiculously expensive
http://www.watchfinder.co.uk/Jaeger-LeCoultre/Mast...

With the change, I'll have a Panerai Luminor 1950, and a titanium-case Omega Seamaster for every day wear.

If money were no object, I'd have something with a gyrotourbillon, just for the awesomeness.

Rather misses the point - spend up to £50k on 1 watch and anything you don't spend you don't get to keep

Not in the slightest IMO.

Hmmm.

I think this advertorial has been pitched at the wrong demographic and will backfire somewhat.

Not following you, whilst ducking the expected parrot.

Whilst a rather frivolous and fanciful topic, surely the point is to pick an outrageously (for most mortals) expensive watch for a budget of £50k, not pick 10 x £5k watches or take the money.

I have some watches I like so I would buy a £5 Timex and and knock £49,995 off the mortgage - but that is neither interesting nor insightful into the world of £50k watches

Ulysse Nardin Freak for me, just because it's like nothing else, and made by UN it will be a work, of art in terms of finishing etc. It's a touch over budget at £56k is that allowed? But I can't see £6k being a deal breaker if ever I was going to spend this sort of money on a watch.

Someone's failed to grasp something because my post wasn't directed at you and you don't appear to be responding to it anyway smile

By the way, I think the poster was joking about wanting the leopard Rolex, at least I hope so...!
