I like Rolex, I have an SDc4000, I've had quite a few from Daytonas to DS' and the wife has a DJ and a new 177200BLRO, but I've always hated the hype that goes with them. They're great, but not the 'best', they hold value like no others and are solid, timeless and dependable. Wonderful things. I love the diving heritage, partially as I'm a Subsea Engineer who knows a lot of people who had original Comex issued.

But. As the popularity grows, the stocks are limited, the price hits stratospheric levels for a SS watch and 'everyone' has to have them, I'm losing that love. I think the 'new' SS Daytona was a turning point - it's beyond 'Emperor's new clothes' for me. £15k for a ceramic bezel and new coloured face? Have a bloody word with yourself! smile

But, with the Tudor Bronzo, the Heritage models, the BB Dark and the new LHD Titanium Pelagos with red accent I'm seeing them as a real style contender for the future trading on both heritage, quality and some really funky design turns!

My new Bronzo has, in 1 week, garnered more +ve comments than all of my historical Rolexes put together!

Anyone feel similar or disagree?

P.S. I think my 1st para shows i'm not creating a new 'knock Rolex' thread!!

Ive just traded a 2012 114060 Submariner for a 46 year old Tudor Sub.

I sort of agree with you. I find the vintage Rolex and Tudor's far more appealing and attractive than the newer Rolex.

People are gravitating towards the new Tudor's , now they've made in house movements for the new ones. The gap is closing , although Rolex price's just keep on climbing.

Yeah, I see what maybe Rolex are doing to preserve their exclusivity, it also has the knock-on effect of bringing Tudor with it, which is fine.

The one for me that is finished is Omega. I'm a big fan, but their pricing is at joke levels now. They had a perfect place in the market, but tried to price match Rolex, and I think that was a mistake that opened the door for Tudor and others to step right in with some great designs...

A fantastic brand and I like the way they're going. I have a Sub and a Milgauss and have just picked up a Heritage Black Bay Red. Absolutely love it and the quality is fantastic. Given the way Rolex prices are going I think Tudor is ever more appealing.

I have to agree with the apeal of the Tudor brand.
A few months ago, I went into my local Rolex/Tudor dealer to get on the Air King list and ended up coming out with a Tudor Blue Chrono (Monte Carlo) as I loved the look of it, especially with the fabric strap.
Having finally got my Air King, I think my next purchase will be the Black Bay Bronze, a beautiful watch which will most definitely only improve with age.

I too have an SD4000 and whilst I like the majority of the Rolex range, I really like Tudors range, particularly the Black Bay and Pelagos. In fact, just before I bought the SD4000, I almost got the Pelagos. Don't regret my choice but I think I'll get a Pelagos next.

After owning Rolex, I find Tuder feel cheap, they sell 1/2 price also if you need to shift them on.
I did buy one on hype but sold it at a big loss after thinking it looked and felt cheap an not a patch on Omega at the same price.

So for me, I doubt I'll ever buy another but it's all personal what one likes.
I am looking for a 14060m 2 line sub ATM last of the classic look subs and of course will only ever go up.

I like both brands.

I've had my Pelagos for a while & wear it quite a bit.

I also had these, which I regret selling now

The newish models don't hold their value like Rolex, but vintage prices are on the up.

My daily wearer is a blue Pelagos which does all I want from a watch at a relatively sensible price. I also have a 1982 Tudor sub which I like the general look and feel of but interestingly I picked up a 1969 5513 on Friday and comparing directly the Rolex does feel subjectievly of finer quality - lets not forget Turdor was marketed as a more affordable watch from the Rolex parent and there is a reason for that but regardless they are good watches in their own right and as for the comment earlier about being inferior to Omega I couldnt agree for a second - my 1967 Speedy is however the exception!

I had a 14060 pre M , then bought a 5513 with the Plexiglass front. The 5513 i believe is the last of the proper Subs.

yes I thought about a 5513, but hard to find nice ones, where you can still buy an as new 14060M and it's better built.

Last of the era always happens just which era ?, the 14060M has the look but the best movement and a new bracelet, but looks the same as an old sub, and in the better imo case design over the new Subs. win win imo and easier to service and can take hits better.

" patina" also a big issue for me, when most have hands which don't match the face !!!

I guess if one can find a mint 5513 with box and papers with matching patina than yep but at a BIG price now.

But then it's a £9k watch over a 14060M £5k minter.

I did have a nice 5513 from Oakleigh , it had the box only. It was a later version with the white gold surrounds on the dial.

If i can remember correctly it was 4250.00. All original , i loved the slight dome in the glass as opposed to the flat sapphire. However ive gone back to a flat sapphire on my 16800.

I will go for a 5513 again , but by then they'll be North of 9 k.

GMT Master 16700 here as well as an ETA Tudor Pelagos - I'm wearing the Pelagos today.

I'd love a vintage DateJust or Air King to wear on black leather as a dress watch. I love the SeaDweller 4000 but it feels a bit pointless for me to add another diver to my collection.

The blue Heritage Chrono is lovely. Maybe if I let my Fortis B42 go, I can justify it...

sorry but i'm just not a fan of tudor. I have never owned one but to me they look cheap. The hands and bezels in particular just lack finesse. Im sure they are great watches but not for me im afraid

The strap on my Datejust wore out after 20 years daily use, so I had a black leather strap fitted at the service. It feels like a new watch, and I prefer it to the bracelet now.

Back to Tudor.....I really like the style of some new models and would probably buy one over a Rolex at today's prices now they have an in house movement. Like most new watches they are very big though.

Lovely, isn't it?

I'm thinking of one of the last of these though, 'new' old stock:
