Hi,

any pointers would be appreciated. WOS seem to want the price of a set of golf clubs. Ridiculous.

Just out of interest, are you having the watch service every X years as a matter of course, or do you wait until something isn't working properly and then get it serviced?

Is the timekeeping off or different to how it’s been the last 5 years?
If not, and it’s exactly the same consistent differential, then you’re probably fine to carry on as you are.
If you must absolutely have peace of mind, then as our Variomatic is up to his eyes, enquire with Brendan (webwatchmaker) as to his cost.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, dropping 2 minutes a week roughly, so needs looking at IMV.

I had my 2007 Seamaster Aqua Terra serviced last year, from memory it cost c£300.

That was at the Omega boutique/shop on Old Bond Street. They simply sent it off to Swatch, and it arrived back a week later.

Try either STS who are Omega approved or there are a number of good indy's who will do a perfectly good service for a lot less. Depends if you want the assurance of being official or not.

I've used them too. Wouldn't hesitate to use them again. My watch came back looking like new and keeps fantastic time.

Coincidentally I am just in the process of having my 1990 Omega Seamaster Automatic serviced by Swiss Time Services.

The watch has been worn every day since I bought it for myself as an engagement present. Well the Mrs got a very expensive ring so I thought it fair!

It might soon be time to retire it for an updated model to save it for my son as an heirloom....

I have always used STS and have found them to be very efficient.

I sent the watch of last Wednesday by Special Delivery and suitably packed and padded. Arrived next day and acknowledged by e mail by STS.

I received an estimate by e Mail on Monday.

Just over £300 plus the inevitable VAT so not cheap but carries a 2 year guarantee thereafter.

The watch comes back as new with any minor marks returned to factory condition. I don't like the thought of over restoration but I have never had any problems when my watch has come back previously.

Turn around is usually about a month or so but I am expecting a slightly longer period this time being over Xmas.

Mine seems to be going in every 3 years or so now but given its daily use and age I guess isn't too bad.

Hope this helps.

Andrew

Try http://www.rytetimewatchrepairs.co.uk/

They've serviced my SMP and other ETA-based watches (Oris etc). Turnaround may be a month or so but prices are reasonable.

Joe (Variomatic) at AWAC should be able to help but may have a backlog. He's had a tough year.

Thanks, I called them up to see if they can refurbish my strap. I gave it to a local watch shop who put the strap on my Seamaster on a buffer and they mate it all a brushed finish and destroyed the mirror finish parts of the links.

Hopefully they can bring it back to its former glory!

They serviced & carried out a small repair on my Speedy a few years ago, would probably take mine somewhere else next time though.
