Looking at getting a pilot style watch, have a steinhart ocean 44 which I think is a great watch for the money. So was considering going for another one. Have a budget of about £700

Had narrowed it down to these 3 from steinhart. But would also look at other brands.

3 nice watches, but I think I'd go with the third of these - reminds me of the IWC I was tentatively looking at last year:

I love the B-Uhr watches, but 47mm will be huge. And still not as big as the originals - 55mm I.I.R.C.

For me it would be the 1st one although if your budget could be stretched a little I've always fancied a Stowa which along with IWC were manufacturers of the original airmen watches for the Luftwaffe.

I wouldn't worry about 47mm being big. I tried a large 49mm Chinese B-Uhr style watch before I bought mine and wasn't at all bothered about the size.

That link doesn't work for me. Try this:
https://www.aldi.co.uk/round-aviation-watch/p/0719...

Either way, it doesn't have anywhere near the appearance or the quality that the OP's Steinhart watches can provide.

I have a freebie watch that I once got from timefactors, its was called a submersible, remembered I had it in a drawer somewhere dug it out and measured it and it was exactly 47mm, so tried it for size and it was perfect. I usually wear a Panerai Luminor which is a fairly big watch.so the 47mm case should be fine

I've got a Nav B Chrono II that I never ever wear. It's very thick as well as being quite large. Just don't find it at all comfortable.

Another vote for Stowa here. I have a Steinhart O1 Vintage Red which I wear daily so I can see why you would be tempted to stick with the Steinhart brand. But my favourite watch is my Stowa Flieger, it feels in a different league to the O1VR. I also prefer the Stowa's face and crown designs to Steinhart's equivalent, just small detail changes I know but Stowa's look 'cleaner' to me. And Stowa was an original manufacturer of these watches too which I like that it has some provenance. They don't do one as big as Steinhart though, and a bit more expensive now too, Stowas seem to have gone up in price quite a bit the last couple of years.

Out of those links you posted, its the 3rd one i think looks the best. I like large watches and have a Super Avenger which is 48mm and i love size and weight of it. That third one def looks very IWC to me, you've really made me look at this brand in more detail so thanks.

I really like this:

https://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/premium-line/oc...

Not released for purchase yet, pre order only, but it looks really good for the price.

I also like this, but at only 78g i'm worried it'll feel too light, and cant see an option to have the same style in steel.

https://www.steinhartwatches.de/en/premium-line/oc...

Do you know of anyone who has either? very tempted.

Anyways All the best on the new purchase.

Definitely swaying to spending the bit extra on the 3rd one, especially as I don't currently have a chronograph watch.

I recently got the Steinhart Nav B-Uhr 44 Vintage TITAN B-Muster 'worn look' pilot watch (https://www.steinhartwatches.de/de/fliegeruhren/nav-b-uhr-44-vintage-titan-b-muster.html) - it is bl**dy excellent. As has been said already, great value watch for the money and some real care and attention has gone into the design and presentation. If I wanted to be extra picky I would say that the strap is too 'distressed' and thick, but that can always be changed, but hopefully it will become more supple with use.

I quite like the chrono version of the second one.

1st or 3rd for me, though both are too large for my tastes. The 2nd is pretty horrid, IMO.

Stowa are a great shout, I have two myself, though the chronos are way above budget even pre-owned and they don't make any fliegers in a 47mm case. Also, being a little pedantic, it's not the Stowa that was responsible for the Luftwaffe watches, the company name was bought by Jörg Schauer sometime in the mid 90s IIRC.

Edit to add that you might want to have a look at Archimede's range, this one is 45mm

Well just a bit of an update on this thread, spotted a Nav B-Chrono 44 on eBay which was only a bout 8 months old, after a bit of haggling managed to get it for a reasonable £525.

Originally was looking at the 47mm model but Looking forward to getting it next week

Actually there were 5 manufacturers that supplied the Luftwaffe with the Nav Uhr watches, the vast majority were supplied by 4 x German makers, A. Lange & Söhne, Wempe, Lacher & Company/Durowe (Laco), and Walter Storz (Stowa) with Swiss maker, IWC only supplying a small number of watches.

I'd be looking for a nice used Tutima Fliegerchronograph 1941 Replika or Classik if you wnqat a nice 'vintage' style pilots watch, as Tutima were one of the original two makers (along with Hanhart) that supplied the original Luftwaffe pilots watches. The Nav Uhr watches were NOT pilots watches they were issued to Navigators wink
