New watch pic (60s Diver)
Discussion
I received this last week to wear whilst my watch is off being serviced. Intended as a temporary bit of fun but I've grown to really like it so think I'll spend a few quid getting it perfect but leave the dial, hands and bezel original. It's my first vintage watch and perhaps the top of a slippery slope!

Nice westclox, does it have a diver and a fish engraved on the case rear?
Manual wind 17J nice size @ 39mm, looks fantastic on an original grains of rice bracelet, rare now though.
Well worth a refurb, and YOM 1965 I would guess.
Thanks chaps - yes I was tempted with the Oris as I love the look of it but it was too much and too similar to my main watch, a Longines Legend Diver (no date) so this fit the bill perfectly!!Manual wind 17J nice size @ 39mm, looks fantastic on an original grains of rice bracelet, rare now though.

And thanks for the info Nemisis - that's right, it has a diver with a rather pissed of fish on the rear. I believe it's a Seiko 66b movement which is running about a minute slow at the moment (but so would I be if I was 50 plus)
Sounds like you're a bit of an expert - anything else you can tell me about it?
Cheers

I really like that. I recall my old childhood alarm clock was a Westclox so it rang a bell.
You've got me searching for "old divers watches" now!!
Actually, there seems to me to be something really cool about having a good looking watch which isn't a hugely expensive big brand name. It shouts "style" without shouting "ego", "crass" or "show-off".
Does make me wonder why we pay £6,000 for a lump of metal and glass with "Rolex" on it. But then the same applies to so many products we buy.

No, not an expert on anything, but I was sent a watch just like yours for a repair to the bezel.
The note read: Bezel ratchet missing - bezel rotates both C&A.
As you already know there was nothing wrong with the watch.
I see!! Yes mine doesn't click at all, but it does offer a good amount of resistance. Not that I use it anyway! Thanks for the info. The note read: Bezel ratchet missing - bezel rotates both C&A.

Mine too!! A white plastic clock with red digital numbers that made a right horrible racket to get me up for my paper round. I therefore have a love-hate relationship with the brand!!You've got me searching for "old divers watches" now!!

The history of the company is quite interesting, actually. Have a look on Wikipedia, there's a whole Scottish factory that employed lots of locals and educated them in watchmaking (they many made clocks I think) and the Illinois factory was burnt down recently.
I know what you mean about the ego thing. I love watches, always have done, but I prefer something understated but something that a REAL enthusiast will ask about. I'm like that with cars, too. I had a Citroen C6 which really attracted hardcore enthusiasts, and the same with the RS2. Other people think 'it's just a car'. One child at school (I'm a teacher) saw me driving off in the Audi and he said in a sarcastic tone 'What have you done to your car'. I said "RS2, google it"
What are they/am I teaching kids these days!
Cheers
