Morning all.

Can anybody recommend a service/repairer for my Monaco CW2113?

After reading too many bad experiences with Tag Heuer customer service, i'm looking elsewhere.

I've found a few potentials, i'd be very grateful if you can assist by providing thumbs up/down as i'm quite unsure where to go!

British Horological Institute - my local branch is Leicester (Colin Reynolds) but happy to use any other

Chronomatic

Cheal Watch

WebWatchmaker

Watch Doctors Tring - i've read a mix of good/bad

Thank you very much for any help.

You won’t have any concerns sending your watch to Brendan (webwatchmaker), but you might also consider Swiss-Serv (Leeds), who are TAG Heuer accredited.

Had no issues with Watch Doctors at Tring. Very professional. I live not far away, so have actually visited their premises too.

Chronomatic are THE BEST, I would not trust my vintage Heuer to anyone else.

That's good to hear, I sent my auto Tag to them last week.

I think "Watch Doctors" are the same as "Hertfordshire Horologists" who sorted this a few years ago: -

They did a great job so last year when it needed a service I sent it there rather than Rolex and it came back looking great and running sweetly.

I would use them again

Sorry to gate crash op, but I have a question if I may.

Is it advisable to have a watch serviced regularly then, I have a Hamilton automatic, owned from new for just over 7 yrs.

Worn approx once a week and on highways and holidays, quick shake, set the time, and away we go. Seems to hold time well, though to be fair I may only have it on for 5-6 hrs at a time.

Or does a Hamilton not sit in the same bracket as a Rolex or Omega, with regard to servicing.

Welcome any pointers, thanks.

Cheal watches? don't you mean the butcher of Cheal. If you search the forums you will find out why

Duncan of Genesis is highly recommended, having used him myself.

After about 8 years the lubricating oil should have a refresh and the movement might need dust cleaned off it. The cost of this is generally proportional to the retail price of the watch, not because it costs more but because it's a nice earner for some brands. Some manufacturers recommend 3 or 5 year intervals, I think because being paid two or three times a decade is nicer than being paid once.

My advice though is to have your Hamilton serviced only when you notice it's time keeping is beginning to wander a little. Even if the lubricating oil completely dries out it won't damage the mechanism as the main bearings will all be ruby-on-ruby movement, with a mohrs harness of 9 and an ability to rub together for donkeys years.

Servicing in West London, in my opinion, is best done by Darius at the Ealing clock gallery. http://www.classicchronographs.co.uk/development/a...

Evening all,

Quick update: I went ahead with the majority recommendation - Watch Doctors Tring.

They responded to my online enquiry promptly, provided good information and 'felt right'.

I used Royal Mail Special Delivery Guaranteed service (£2,5k insured - £11.55) and WD confirmed received.

I now have a patient ~3 week wait!

I'll report back once returned etc

Once again, thank you to those who contributed to the topic.
