Thanks in advance.

Can you go wrong?
The Santos was originally designed for the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont (one of Cartier's buddies) in 1904.
It is one of the first (if not the first) custom designed wristwatches. It is certainly the very first avaitors watch.

The design is 113 years old, it's still popular. What's not to like?

I've always liked the Santos 100XL. If you like it then buy it.

I have flipped a Santos 100 three times and now wear a fourth as my dress watch.
They wear larger than you would think but are a lovely watch.

Thats good to know, and how did you get on with the resale value when you flipped, come out on top , even or take a bath?

Nearly always took a hit but never too painful just due to my lazy selling
A steel and gold with steel and gold bracelet lost the most.
I always buy secondhand so that helps. I was offered a brand new steel and leather in Gibralter for only just over £3000 last year but payed £1900 from a dealer in Spain off Chrono24.
Replacement straps from ebay etc are 90% as good as genuine at less than 10% cost

It looks a great buy, have you any idea what full retail is?
Gold watches can generally be bought with decent discounts I think, but that must be a fair old price cut.
Have to say though that looks very nice and we all only live once

I believe its no longer in production, it was a lot more than that new, used ones are as much or sometimes more a quick look on either Watchfinder or Chrono24 demonstrates this.

as I say i am there on business in two weeks time so if its still available it may be coming back with me!!

Cheers JP.

Lovely watches, they wear really well as the back of the watch is slightly curved and that places it well on your wrist only 10mm tall and in todays watch world that's not much, the 100XL is 38mm x 51mm and seems to have presence on your wrist at the same time as not shouting about itself.

The case is very well finished with some lovely polished detail against brushed, it's a simple fairly flat dial though so not for you if you want applied markers etc....

I would recommend one, you pick a mint S/S 100XL up for about 3k retail is around 5.6k IIRC.

No problem, the gold one you're thinking of is rather stunning! There is a nice write up here on the santos:
