Thread dead for over two years, for a new poster to say not to buy one.

Odd.

Holy thread resurrection, Batman!

I’d almost forgotten I’d made this thread, can’t see why anyone would bother to register for an account, just to post their personal vendetta...

As it happens, I still have the Sub - working fine but did need to be regulated about a year ago, was -6 sec per day, now -1.

I ended up (briefly) with a Tudor Bronze, I only had it a few months because I’d convinced myself that it wasn’t too big (clearly forgetting that the smaller 41mm black bay I tried on before the sub was also too large)

It ran perfectly, I can’t think I ever wound it or reset the time on it, and I only wore it every other day

Thankfully, in the last 2.5 years ish, I’ve put on some timber and can get away with a 41mm, as a result I’ve put my name down for a Harrod’s Black Bay (boo hiss yes I know) so perhaps I can resurrect this thread again when my name gets called!

I have two Tudors. A new GMT and an S&G Chrono on the leather strap. The GMT went back to the factory for the date jump issue, but they replaced the movement altogether with no quibble. The Chrono is a beautiful thing and it's rarely off my wrist. Both keep time as well as my Rolex.

Got a bit of a hankering for the red version , bronze model is growing on me as well.

Pity my watch fund is depleted at the moment , nothing to do with the new kitchen we’ve fitted iykwim.

I have a 1970’s tudor sub snowflake, a pelagos and an advisor. Recently bought my son a blue black bay.
I am pretty pleased with mine, the Advisor being my favourite.
I wouldn’t want to own a Rolex. I like them but my perception of the ‘image’ puts me off them.

Unpopular opinion but I actually prefer the design of the Tudor over the Rolex and you get to save a fortune in the process. You also won't have the Rolex baggage of "is that fake?" or "flash git, you're wearing a status symbol" type negativity. If you genuinely aspire to a Rolex then nothing else will do so I'd save up until you can achieve your dream. If like me, Rolex is just another good watch brand like many others then there are cheaper, good alternatives that will deliver the joy of a luxury watch.

My current grail is a black face, white sub dial Navitimer on brown leather. It's the watch that got me into watches. I can get a decent used example for around £4k. I was toying with getting a cheaper used Sinn 903 to save some money but I'm just not sure whether I should be talked out of that and just save up longer for the Navi. Similar boat to you OP.

edited to add I've just seen this is an old thread biggrin

Back in 2016 I bought a Black bay in house as i wanted a nice watch for my upcoming wedding in 2017, and didnt want to stretch to a Submariner. 6 months into ownership and just before the wedding i decided it was too lumpy on my wrist ( i really wanted the sub) and i ended up selling it and buying a no-date sub. I'm glad i did as i intend to keep it forever and it feels more special. However ive now done a full loop and bought a black bay 58 too. Both watches are very very nice and almost similiar quality. The rolex just feels more special and the bracelet is better.

Adore my BB58!

Didn't really understand peoples comments about the bracelet until I bought a Rolex. Definitely a good difference in quality. That said, the Tudor is still decent and I don't mind the rivets. I'm tempted to go onto a brown leather strap though.

I have a lot of love for other Tudors (had a BB Chrono too) but after I went to the 58 I do wish they were more options this size. Would love a BB in blue or even a GMT if it was 39mm

I'd sell my BB58 for a 39mm GMT Pepsi or coke in a heartbeat, I'd quite like to try a brown strap on the 58 but not sure im up for spending £150 on the correct tool to remove my bracelet without risk of scratches.

I was originally attracted to Tudors with the Pelagos, and I very nearly bought an ETA when they first launched.

I’ve ended up with a Ranger and then a North Flag, as my tastes seem to have moved on from a pure diver’s watch towards other things.

Maybe my next watch will be a Black Bay of some sort though, I’ve seen a 41 for a good price that I may try.

Where did you manage to get this if you don't mind me asking? They seem to be attracting a fair premium online now.

I've said it on here before and although plenty of other disagree, I think the Tudor and Christopher Ward are very evenly matched. Perhaps the Tudors have slightly better finished dials but that's about it.

.
I know that this thread was resolved, but thought that I would comment on this. I own both a Tudor Black Bay and a Christopher Ward Trident 600 GMT in bronze.

The Tudor's dial is nicer, but only really down to the hour markers, which are edged in metal, whereas the Ward's are plain.

The Tudor's bezel operation is bit nicer t feel.

In every other respect, the finishing on the Ward is as good and in fact (bezel teeth, crown, for example) sometimes better. At way less than half the price.

The Tudor has an in-house movement and is a certified chronometer, the Ward uses a generic one (ETA in the GMT's case, I think), and I believe is not.

I prefer wearing the Trident. It certainly attracts more (good) attention with people asking about it (although as a bronze watch, this is perhaps unsurprising - the steel Trident looks much more "normal".
