They come with a lovely box that's bigger than the moon itself, but full of extra straps, a loupe, springbar tool & booklets on the NASA use.
I believe you can also still get it without the massive box with straps etc. and save circa GBP 300
I got a simple red Omega box with mine when I bought it at Heathrow four years ago.

£2400 if I remember correctly (vat free) and it's lovely.

I think I've only worn it three times!

They changed the box in 2015 to the big box with all the straps purely for the standard Moonwatch.

The retail black then was £2880 if memory serves me correct.

Today (6Th March 17) sees a 5 or 6% price increase across the board on Omega watches.

Ah, that's why I've got a red box then!

I ordered mine prior to going through T3 on a trip and saved a few quid which can still be done yes

The 'Moonwatch' version is the one to go for, the legend from whence it all started.
Unless you prefer one of the other models, in which case get one of those. It's a mistake to buy a watch for collector type reasons if you just want something to wear and enjoy.
Absolutely - But start with the "Moonwatch", because it's what a Speedmaster Pro SHOULD be.

If you prefer a blue dial, an automatic, a sapphire sandwich, a Snoopy, an Apollo 17 or a Tintin, buy one of those. Personally, I like the "Moonwatch" with the added moonphase complication.

Me, I'm wearing my 1997 "Moonwatch' - Nothing special in the Speedmaster canon, but the lume has aged nicely, it had a service (with STS) a couple of years back when the mainspring broke and it came back looking like new!

My son was born in 1997, so one day, if he's interested, this will be his, but it was a coincidence as I bought the watch off eBay, sitting in the bar of a hotel (After a few beers) in Chester! biggrin

The Tin Tin is in essence a moonwatch as its the same case, movement etc the only difference is the dial which is hand painted.

Sold out in the UK now. and once actually not looked at at all, now hot property!

That is absolute rubbish.

I own a Schumacher Legend because I wanted a full size Speedmaster with a bit of colour. If I went to buy a Moon watch instead I hope people around me would have pointed out I was being an idiot for buying something I didn't want because that is what one 'should' do.

Difficult to articulate how annoying I find this kind of thinking. It is just so needlessly closed off and derisory.

We were discussing the moonwatch at work today, my colleague said it needed to be plexi glass no glass back manual wind etc...

But I can't find that on the Omega website I want a moon watch to go along side my PO 2500D and 9900

I've tried on a CK2998 with the 1861 movement which I think is closest to the original in terms of size and calibre but it wears too small for me although I loved the details.

I have settled on looking for a 44.25mm version with the 9300 movement.

I've heard rumours there are still some NOS pieces kicking around the safes of some Boutiques [not in London though]

People should remember, or find out, that the Speedmaster was intended as a motorsport orientated watch. Space came along and they ran with it, but it is not the sole focus of the Speedmaster.

I see what you mean, but I also think it is legitimate to point out to prospective purchasers that what they may see as the "runt of the litter" (hesalite, manual, no date etc) is in fact the one to have in terms of heritage.

I quite like this quote from the Watch Snob The Speedmaster is one of those things best experienced in its purest form. It is not interesting when adulterated with gewgaws like an automatic winding system or a date guichet, grafted onto it to make it more palatable to a wider audience. The Speedmaster is like a good single malt; if you're not going to take it neat, don't take it at all.http://uk.askmen.com/fashion/mens-watches/omega-sp...

Having said that I find the endless space-themed "special editions" tiresome (with the obvious exception of the two Snoopys above) and am just wondering what sort of fuss Omega will make in 2019…

All very interesting replies.... I think I'm now zeroed in the model that I want - how many size variants are there?

I wish I'd bought a Snoopy when I was offered one 7/8 years ago!

I've recently bought a FOIS, which is, in my eyes, the pick of the recent variants. Not a limited edition as such, but a numbered edition. Same size dial as the standard watch, just in a slimmer, slightly dressier case.

I never quite 'got' the Tintin until recently, now I'd love one for the bit of fun it adds.

Basel this year will be interesting. I can't agree with the numbers of editions being churned out, but the market certainly seems to like it.

I've always fancied a Snoopy but just had a shock at the prices on Chrono24

I've had my Ed White for over 20 years and I love it. One day I will have the back off and request the details from Omega to find out exactly what year it is.

Just buy what you like, my watch above is probably a tiresome special addition to some, but I bought it because I like it and I like the link to the moon landings however tenuous. I don't blame omega for making special additions, in fact they would be crazy not to and as long as the watches are nice it really is not an issue.
