They are under £30K on eBay but why anyone would want to spend that kind of money on a watch made in the 100,000’s in a factory is beyond me. Same with cars - there are many classics of which there are under 250 left in the world which are far more interesting to own and cheaper than £30K.
In 2017 at Shelsley Walsh I was offered £250,000 for my rather rare 1961 E-type, one of less than 100 RHD from that year that still exist. Interesting the car may be, but it is worth less than half that today. Rather like watches I guess.

Point taken, albeit it’s not an under £30k classic some of which I would say could be more interesting to own.

there were 67000 E types made so its hardly a rare car. But it is an attractive classic to many people. Mind you some people see the Dagenham Dustbins as attractive classics - RS 2000s etc. argue

I have three cars of which there were less than 500 made - one in fact less than 100 plus a fourth which is the earliest known example in Europe. Thats what I prefer to spend on - ‘living breathing’ testimony to British (& US) proper engineering - not having to suck up to a dealer to have the merest chance to buy a watch.

I take my hat off to those of you who are happy for Rolex (etc) to Boss you and continue to buy their product. I would have told the AD’s to get stuffed with their playing Watch God long ago.

I’ll leave it there. Bless ya.

I guess it depends on the type of music you listen to?

I'm 41 and I had genuinely never heard of him, and I listen to all kinds of different music genres.

I obviously know who he is now, since I googled him, and then read some interviews about his watch collecting.
He has 15 million monthly listeners on Spotify, he isn't Taylor Swift, but is pretty well known going on those numbers. I couldn't name a song, but had heard of him before the watch stuff all kicked off on Hodinkee.
I think he has an interest in Hoodinkee as well, maybe he is branching out as all is not well there.
Never heard of him until about a year or two ago and really don't get all the fuss.

He's a brilliant guitar player.

Right - I’m not sure who these people are trying to convince, he’s obviously very successful as a musician and has a superb collection of watches with many stories to boot.

There would be people on this forum that would tell you they’d never heard of Lionel Messi.

I will never forgive him for Abu Dhabi, 2021.

No steel sports models, but could this sudden availability be a sign that orders are drying up and supplies are easing?
I am not an expert and don't have 'inside' knowledge but I posted pics of trays of available bi-metal Rolex watches from an AD before Christmas, just not in the U.K.

I advised my mate not to bother but he bought a bi-metal anyway as he wanted one and was bored. That's how men roll I suppose.

Richemont share price still holding and so should Rolex prices.......for now............

I passed an AD in centre of Metz yesterday and although they weren't open their window display had a number of interesting pieces. Daytona Ghost, jubilee / fluted Wimbledon, Bluesy, among other stuff. No exhibition only signs nor prices.
Shame they were closing and I couldn't go in but then again may have saved myself a shed load of cash

I totally get that, and I know sometimes people do this weird thing where they pretend not to have heard of people, but you have to admit John Mayer is obscure unless you are a fan of his music. I genuinely consider myself fairly well read with decent current/general knowledge, and I listen to loads of music, but until about 2 years ago I had never heard of him. The only reason I found out about him was because I was viewing videos on watches where people kept mentioning his name, so I googled him to find out who he was.

I then called up the John Mayer Essentials playlist on Apple, had a listen through, and can confirm I do not recognise a single one of those songs. I could ask everyone in my extended family who John Mayer was and I guarantee they wouldn't have a clue.

Google tells me that the closet he has ever come to the UK top 40 is No 41 (for 1 week only) with a song called 'Moving on and getting over', so clearly he barely gets played on the radio over here. I imagine he is much bigger in the US.

Anyway, you can all relax as I know who Mayer is now. His music is dire though IMO. It's all that wishy-washy 'woe is me' singing whilst strumming a guitar with all the energy of a wet lettuce.... I think you can gather it's not for me!

I have heard of Messi, and I know he's a footballer, but I couldn't tell you what nationality or team he was (no interest in football) smile

Likewise, no idea who he is. Might have heard the name before but absolutely no idea who he is or what his music is like. In fact I just had a look on Apple Music at his Top 5 songs and can't say I have ever heard of them before.

He's an American thing. Lots of people in the UK have also not heard of, for example, Jimmy Buffett, who was HUGE in the US.

Er - 72,000 is the actual total. A friend sold his last years for £750,000, but it was just one of four of that type made.

I had never heard of him either until I googled him some time back when I heard people referring to a Rolex model using his name.
Funnily enough he turned up in an episode of Impractical Jokers recently, seems like he is up for a laugh!

I'd never heard of Mayer until I read an article about him last week, however, I doubt there's anybody who didn't know that Lionel Messi was lead singer of the Commodores, mainly in the 70's/80s.

Ed Sheeran likes watches, and sings. What model shall we name after him.
