I would say Dubai. They have actual Breitling shops here, not just jewellers that sell them.

I got mine from Fuerteventura and saved £800 on prices over here, MOH got his in the duty free Mappin & Webb shop in Heathrow, not sure how much he saved as his is not one you see in shops regularly.

A friend of mine got her last one in Lanzarote and I think she said she saved about £1000 compared to what she would have paid here.

Oh good I'm heading out there for Easter and was similarly thinking of treating myself!

Bought mine in Dubai, saved around 20%, i.e. the VAT plus a bit. So by the time you pay the VAT at Heathrow pricing is close.

Looking at a Tag in St. Lucia last year, most of the watches there were about 30-50% off UK prices and they carried a lot of watches.

Dubai is not as good as it used to be, about 20% saving out there.

Bought mine from the US, although I suspect a trip to Dubai would pay for itself.

yes
Got mine in Dubai for equivalent of £1800. London price is £3000. Go to Dubai and spend the £1200 on the holiday.

Cheapest place i've found for watches is the duty free shop in Male in the Maldives. Get a good deal on a watch and a great holiday too! Bought my last Breitling there.

What sort of % saving did you get?

It was 3 or so years ago now (so can't guarantee it's still as cheap), but I bought an Old Navitimer and a Cartier Santos for Mrs Deevee - £3K for the two. A mate got a great deal too - Steel Omega Seamaster for £800.

The duty free there is only small, but carries a really good stock of watches.

Plus, you cannot whack the Maldives as a holiday destination.

It's all good! thumbup

Agreed - the Maldives are fantastic, although I'd wager that buying a watch in Dubai is cheaper - and of course Dubai is a major hub on the way to the Maldives (I don't think any scheduled airlines go direct, do they? IIRC, you'll have to transfer at either Dubai or Columbo unless going on a chartered flight)

Edited to add, there's an official shop in Dubai airport that sells Breitlings, so you don't even need to leave the airport if you're just changing planes. And there's a bloke that will take out links from the bracelet there and then (providing he's not off praying) so you can wear it on the plane and not pay the tax when you land in blighty..

laugh There will be nothing to declare Sir.

I would rather pop it up my arse than pay the VAT, although wearing it on my wrist would seem to be an easier option.

OK thanks for the heads up, last time I was there I bought the missus a nice diamond ring, I did get 'a discount' but I didn't really haggle per se. I will make up for it next time though!

If you buy outside the EU there is 17.5% VAT to pay on entry to uk. You can chance it, many do. But they are not strupid and they examine your credit card records. So you could get a criminal record.

Amsterdam airport is very good, they guarantee to beat any price in Holland and the price includes VAT. I bought a Brietling there. Always pick up the special offer booklet when you go through Amsterdam airport. This features all the items that are at cheaper than cheap prices in all the shops there. I have bought binoculars and loads of other stuff at incredibly low prices doing this.

This doesnt seriously affect me since I am resident in Russia and have been for the past 4 years, I will be passing through UK on my return and I may need to explain myself but a look at my passport should clear things up pretty quickly.
