I'm sorry but after glancing over yet another thread on watches, I find it hilarious that people fuss over Rolex.
I bought one and sold it again, I couldn't wear it as I came to the conclusion that they are only bought by people that wear them for pub power!
They are tacky and unreliable, anyone who knows their timepieces and would prefer a bit of style goes for a better quality timepiece, generally more understated.
Unless they want to compare bills with the local kebab shop owner that is.

I own, and have owned many watches. As I type this I am wearing a rather nice SS white faced Oyster Perpetual with Roman dial.
Rolex invented the waterproof watch. They are also an iconic item. There are better watches, sure, but it isn't all about the engineering.
Rolex are a prestige brand at the lower end of the really prestige market. They are achievable, in a way that for the vast majority Patek, Vacheron, Blancpain et al aren't (all of which brands I have owned - Blancpain was the best IMHO).
So what do you prefer?

Nope love my watches, always wanted a Rolex had a salmon faced Air King then a white faced Daytona but I felt they were far too brash and bling. Now gone for something subtle, understated and classy for a change.

You bought a watch that you thought aspirational, found it wasn't what you expected and now scoff at others who like them.
Perhaps not everyone buys them for the same reasons you did?
I have never had one, but loads of people at work do. I suppose that they are about the right level of money that you can get yourself something nice out of the bonus withiout the wife moaning about it too much.
I like them, though. As i said on the other thread, I think that the yacht-master is a really nice watch, and the Explorer II, too.
They tend to cost a lot less than a car, and probably make the owner smile every time they check the time.

So you loved them, but thought they were brash?
That seems a bit strange. Maybe it woudl have made sense to look at them, first, and see if they were your sort of thing.
They don't exactly morph after purchase...

Nope, keep up.
I bought in as some of you did to the whole Rolex thing, thinking they were the timepiece to be reckoned with, a real quality item to have for life. I liked them but in the real world. I'm sorry they ARE tacky.
