You mean except for the watch on my wrist right now? Sinn UX.... or even the old B&R Hydromax wink Blows all those watches away with its 5,000m rating
Never seen that B&R before! Looks a beast a quick google & just saw one with an 11,000M depth rating!!! :0

Putting on one side depths that a human can survive these extreme depth ratings are interesting when seen in the context of just how deep the Earth's oceans are - the NOAA give the average depth at 14,000 feet with the deepest area the Challenger Deep in the western pacific in the Mariana Trench assessed to extend down to 36,200 feet

If that watch is really rated to 5000m that's 16,404 feet so deeper than the blue ocean average - I guess some watchmaker will eventually come up with a "Challenger Deep" edition to take pointlessness to a whole new level

They're oil/fluorine filled cases with quartz movements - mechanical movements don't have the torque to move the hands through the oil reliably. The DSSD is remarkable in that it can achieve its depth rating without being liquid filled - it is basically a void at atmopsheric pressure in there rather than using a (virtually) incompressible liquid holding the case from imploding.

The Sinn and B&R Movements are rated to 5000m depth before they are crushed, cases to 10-11000m. Wonderfully pointless and completely amazing for it. I'd love a UX! smile

Out of interest, does anyone know why the SD doesn't have a cyclops? To the best of my knowledge it's the only date Rolex without.

It would, at extreme pressure, create a point load on the crystal.

Wow that's extreme

They are just glued on but I see the convex nature might pinpoint pressure

I'd heard it was due to the extra thickness of the SD crystal - the fact that the lens wouldn't work correctly on it..?

I was on the verge of buying one from a Sinn dealer in Munich when I noticed the one he was wearing had an airbubble in it!

He told me they all do it and you have to send it back to Sinn for a refill.

Put me right off and I ended up with a U1 which is a nice watch but nowhere near as impressive as a UX.

Think the clue is in the 'no date' part.... smile

I had a no date sub.
They are lovely, and have an un cluttered look to them.
However it was my married watch, so I changed it for a Sea Dweller last year.
I believe they are quite rare.

Sea-Dweller or non-date Sub? Either way, prodced in their tens or hundreds of thousands smile

I've read that the original EZM2 would sometimes have a bubble however I don't think that I've read or seen the same with the later UX series EZM2B, mine doesn't, it's interesting to hear that they could share the same trait.

The U1 is a fine watch in itself, the Lego brick handset is pretty cool

Mine has had the absolute crap kicked out of it. Chipped crystal at the edge, scratched across the face, every bracelet link and every part of the case heavily marked as well. Use it as it was supposed to be used and when you get it serviced, it will come back looking new smile
My SD has quite the rap sheet:

- Bracelet scratched
- Case scratched and dented
- Bezel insert scratched
- Glass heavily chipped
- Case lugs knocked
- Bezel marked
- Case back marked and dented
- Bezel insert lume dot cracked
- Monobloc heavily knocked

That's according to the Rolex receipt from when I dropped it off for a service this morning anyway - perhaps I should have just thrown it in the bin instead!

Not looking forward to receiving the estimate back for the service, but it has been a pleasure to have it on my wrist for the best part of 3 years (2003 watch) since I bought it, and I have absolutely no plans on selling it so it will be money (relatively) well spent I think. Up the SDs!

It was the original EZM2 I guess. This would have been back in 2006ish.

Now, that sounds like a cracking, well-loved piece! Used as Rolex intended, by the sounds of it! Ok, maybe not for deepsea diving but at least it's been a daily tool watch!

I'd be tempted to leave it as-is; the Rat Look SD! However, since it is already there, I guess you may as well have some bits done biggrin

I wouldnt worry smile
Mine had pretty much the exact same description when i took it in for service at the start of the year smile including a twisted bracelet/bust clasp etc. (the horror on the AD's face was priceless lol)

Came back looking as new as the day i bought it, and didn't cost me a penny extra, although they could have changed the bezel insert.. which as it turns out is something you need to request.

I'm sure it will be fine, it looks like a bit of arse covering by Rolex just in case I try and accuse them of damaging it I suppose, so it's fair enough.

I have requested a light polish, a service and a new crystal (existing one chipped), will also add a new bezel to the list when the estimate comes through.
