I have a Rolex Submariner 16610 which i bought 6 years ago (2003 model)and it has the green Rolex hologram on the back. i have seen various used Rolex watches advertised over the years on places such as ebay(!) which do not have the hologram and i just wondered if people tend to remove the sticker or if this is a sign the watches are probably fake? I would prefer to have the watch with no hologram on the back but i always figured that trying to take it off may leave a residue of glue as it is very well stuck on - and has shown no signs of coming off despite being worn every day since i got it.

Just one of those little things which I have wondered about for a few years, i probably need to get out more....

I guess it is personal choice whether to leave on/take off and would be no indicator of a fake. I peeled mine off (after a number of years wear) and cleaned the back up with warm water and hand soap. By the way, new ones no longer come with the hologram.

I have a Daytona but the hologram started to look a bit tatty and faded (wear it every day), so I took it off.

No residue left when taken off. Fakes have holograms now anyway - I still have all the orignal paperwork and receipts for the watch
which can be checked should I ever sell it.

You can fake the paperwork, but I suspect a quick call to the original main dealer would confirm the watch was genuine (or likely to be - I suppose you would get a fake watch and sell it with your papers?? )

Sorry to contradict you all, but got a new oyster perpetual date in March this year and it was respledent in vivid green hologram sticker complete with model number.
Thinks - maybe it was very old stock so that was why they gave me a discount!

My Sea Dweller purchased from a reputable jeweller in July this year had the sticker.

Maybe its just the Daytona then - mine was new this year and didn't have one, Dominic H also supplied one for a friend of mine a couple of months ago also without the hologram.

Found this on the internet:

My SD purchased a couple of weeks ago didn't have a hologram or a sticker with the model number on, it also came with the credit card sized 'certificate'.

I love pistonheads

I googled "green bit on back of rolex" and up popped this 8 year old thread (back when i had only a PHer for 2-3 years or so...)

so for anyone that wants to know, as of 2016, new rolexes don't have a hologram on the back, but they do have a bit of peelable plastic that protects it from scratches.

As the OP, I received an email to say a post had been received, nothing ever disappears off the internet! I still have the Rolex and it still has the hologram sticker on the back, worn smooth after all these years!

Holy thread resurrection. Can't believe it was 9 years ago. Still have the SD although I keep toying with the idea of selling it as I've only worn it on a handful of occasions.

Stickers of any sort, on anything, annoy the piss put of me. I always peel them off straight away.

I wear my watches most days irrespective of what I'm doing, or what I'm working on, so a keeping a sticker on a watch for some kind of minuscule value retention is pointless. Same as a guy I know who came to pour all the concrete floors in my new house the other day, he has a Rolex Day-Date which he wears every single day, splattering it in concrete rofl He isn't concerned in the slightest.

Collectors like all that sticker stuff. Ive owned a number of the steel Subs and Gmt's and never had a sticker on the back.

I read the sticker is a breeding ground for germs

Is the sticker easy to remove I don't want to scratch the back of the watch

Hi, I am the original poster! I still have the watch and can report that the sticker eventually fell off, not sure exactly when as I just noticed it had gone one day. I estimate it took about 15 years and i wear it every day....!
