Cross Townsend Medalist Fountain Pen

£90 with 10% discount

looks very much more expensive, very smooth writing, heavy, not so expensive that you daren't take it out of the house

it's the old (pre-Newton) 600 model, you should be able to find some on the ubiquitus 'Bay, good hunting!

no, I'm going to get one from http://penhome.co.uk/fjader.htm - I suspect it's a normal ballpoint refill so nothing special, but the design looks very ergonomic and worth a bash I reckon.

Try Conway Stewart...brilliant, stylish, classic pens and 100% BRITISH. They do one called a Churchill which is a monster, but in white it looks amazing. Or go vintage...a Wahl-Eversharp Coronet (if you can find one) must be one of the loveliest things a person can own.

This thread made me chuckle! I love fountain pens and recently acquired one of these...

http://www.pensinasia.com/da_vinci_fp__visconti.ht...

I couldnt resist and using it is a daily pleasure. Having made the purchase it made me think that there might be use for a pen forum on PH. When I posted the suggestion it was met with much derision! My chuckle today was that this thread has created so much interest. After all, unless you are a blingy sort of chap who wears lots of jewellery, what acoutrements, other than watches, are there for a 'proper man' these days?

OP, for £50 I'd say keep yer money and save for a Mont Blanc. A lifetime pen for reasonable money.

I have one of these:

Sterling silver with lovely engraving. Unfortunately I don't use it much in the course of my life these days :-(

I was looking at a slightly less ornate one on Monday - felt very nice.

Maybe a bit low rent for your guys, but this ebay deal of the day strikes me as good value.

I have been using two Lamy fountain pens for about three years now. Excellent pens. Probably at the cheaper end of the market compared to what has been mentioned previously but they are great to use - very smooth and cheap refills. Also, they dont seem to dry out as quickly as other fountain pens I have had in the past.

Regarding the Fjader pen on the previous page, I agree that they look quite good but personally I found the actual pen very poor - the one I ordered ( and subsequently returned) was like a cheap biro to write with and because it was so light, felt slightly awkward to use.

I'd agree with Lamy, especially the 2000, very nice pen.

I'm Black BIC Crystal all the way, but I didn't come here to tell you that.

I have a memory like a goldbear golddog golden sieve and work with 6 different airlines computer systems. All have different commands and whatnot and since I'm all over the airport I have to carry all my notes and prompts.

Over time I've condensed them into a bible of essentials, and carry it around with me in my pocket. Time came for a V2.0 as it was getting a bit tatty and I chanced upon Moleskinne.

Proper stout little notebooks, and bargainous too.

You cannot beat a Bic, even if I won the Euro Lottery I wouldn't buy any other. Spending £120 on a pen is quite shameful, would rather give the money to charity.
So does this apply to cars - everyone should be driving q g-wizz and give any extra to charity.

I'd second moleskine, great notebooks (diaries, city planners, layout books and whatever else they do!)
you can just see one of mine in my last pic.
