Budget Sub lookalike?

You can compromise if you truly want a sub copy and good quality for a couple of hundred bucks

I'd hope the one you buy hasn't got a loose 7 lume dot floating about inside it.http://www.worldwidetime.com/Rolex/Rolex-Submarine...
If the display version has defects, imagine what you'd get sent!
I bought an EmaS as a beach watch in the summer. Good thing, although the clear acrylic might not be to some tastes. It is waterproof, looks great on a NATO strap and I don't care if it gets battered.
Have you thought about an Ollech and Wajs? Chronomaster sells them and they look to be good value, although I haven't seen one in the flesh.

you might as well just buy a fake
Odd that a Rolex enthusiast even suggests such a thing? Are you serious, KR?!Instead may I suggest the perfect substitute.
Emas watches grew out of the need for those well heeled types staying at fancy hotels on the continent for a watch while they were out and about on the beach or sailing etc and wanted to tell the time....but their Rolex or Audemars or whatever was in the hotel safe. And rightly so because there were a number of high profile muggings. So a hotel started providing their wealthy clientle with polycarbonate sub lookalikes branded Nivrel. These are branded EmaS in the UK after Enrico MASerini.
Not a fake, a hommage really
Quartz or Auto movement (same price I think), robust and £125-150 quid ish.
And not subsidising organised crime
Here is one
I've got one of these and I love it. I paid £130 for it when I popped into see Graham at Bramley's (Kensington). I've had/still have a number of swiss makes including R*lex, but I'm happy to add this to my collection. Amongst all the classic Bentleys and Astons that he has in stock, he maintains this little sideline. Brilliant.

I'd always be nervous buying from any website like that, it seems so easy to set up a place like that, which you'd hardly be able to go to the police if it didn't turn up!
The seiko looks good, and it still can hold it's head up proudly. Even people who couldn't name a single Rolex model knows they have a "sweep" second hand, and a quartz Sub will be picked out by people who have never seen a single Rolex in their life!
I'm off to look into that seiko now too!
edit - are the Seiko's rare?
ebay list them as rrp£225, on sale at £319

Some classic Diver Seiko's - I mean going back to the 60's/70's etc are very rare and very desirable. The seiko looks good, and it still can hold it's head up proudly. Their current range - IMO - seems to have lost some of that utilitarian, solid, 'outdoor professional' look, but if you're keen do look at the older ones.
Sandoz. Singapore Sandoz are better than Hong Kong Sandoz. They clearly state that theyre 'Made in Switzerland' and pass through Swiss customs. The Hong Kong products also use a Swiss ETA action, but they dont claim to be made in Switzerland: nor do they have sapphire crystals (one or two do now, not all).

I've got one of these, excellent watch. The bracelet is crap though so I've changed mine to a better quality one(super oyster)Edited by swanny71 on Friday 2nd January 19:30
Its automatic though, so isn't as accurate as a quartz would be.
After some thought and deliberation the budget has increased and the 'look' preference is moving away from the sub lookalike, however the accuracy thing is something I can't get away from. I do appreciate a good movement and automatics would be on the list if I knew that they could hold time to within +/- 10 secs in a month.
So my question is do I go for something like this with a quartz mech or an automatic mech?
I know it's been described as fussy on a recent thread but I do like this too:
Would I be unrealistic to expect the sort of accuracy mentioned above from something like a Sinn 103?

I suspect you're asking too much, of a mechanical watch if you're expecting +/-10 seconds a monthSo my question is do I go for something like this with a quartz mech or an automatic mech?

I have the Sinn 103 you mention and it gains 3 seconds a day so 90 seconds a month.
My speedmaster is an Official Chronometer and it gains 4 seconds a day.
Even high end mechanical watches are expected to be within +6 -4 to achieve Chronometer status.
If you require the type of acuracy you mention, you'll have to go Quartz IMO
Part of the pleasure of watch ownership for me is the daily wind and adjust. Part of my morning routine...
