I wear my Sub everyday, and night. I'm trying to persuade myself (it's really tough) that I need a more 'leather strapped' type watch to add to my small collection, so I put it to the PH watch fraternity, ignoring the approximate £1k price difference.

Omega Aquaterra Railmaster

or

Breitling Navitimer 50th Anniversary

scratchchin Always loved the Railmaster due to family history, but seem to be drawn to the Navitimer 50th Anniversary too.

Railmaster.

I'm sure the Breitling has got a pair of hands in there some where but I couldn't see them due to all the other clutter on the face.

Of the two - Railmaster (although my default Omega choice would be a Speedmaster Professional). I too find the Breitling far too busy.

For me it would be the Navi, but then I prefer Breitlings. The Railmaster is completely at the opposite end of the scale, to me those sub dials don't seem right, far too small and almost like an after thought in the design.

Whilst I understand the comments about Breitling dials being busy, it's kind of the appeal to them, and the Navitimer is about as classic a design as you can get (for a Breitling).

I recently purchased this, and I personally think it's a beautiful watch, so maybe one of these as an alternative if you can find one? Semi perpetual requiring a date change every 4 years.

I see the appeal of both watches but personally I'd prefer the Railmaster.

Railmaster for me. I'd be scared to have a Navitimer in case someone asked me how all the dials and numbers worked and I'd have to admit I didn't have a clue.

If you have to put it on here both are wrong for you, take a look at the IWC range.

Looked at a few IWC options, love the Portugese chrono, but don't really want to stretch to Portugese prices at the moment. I considered a Pilot/Spitfire but it would always be my 2nd choice IWC. I'd rather wait until I can warrant spending the extra on the Portugese (or at least warrant it to Mrs MoJo) and add an IWC to the collection then.

You know what you've done now don't you !! I'm off to look at a 'pre-owned' Portugese banghead

Navitimer for me.
I prefer the 'busy' look and like the use of the full chrono which unlike some imitations only offer half.

No all I need to do is find the right Navitimer World which has the largest dial on the Navitimer line.

Speedmaster also looks great with a tan leather strap imho!

If I was going chrono, then speed master pro as recommended above.

If I was going rail master how about the non-chrono version? Random internet pic:

Or maybe look at something from the Ball range if there is some kind of link to trains as per OP

I agree, the Railmaster should be a clean watch, the chrono seems at odds with the design to me.

I wouldn't want a silver or white dialed Navitimer either, personally. I agree with the first comment about the hands being lost. It's much less of an issue with the black (or blue) faced versions.

Of the two? If I didn't have a Cosmonaute, the Navitimer, but as I do, I'd get a simple 3-handed Railmaster smile

Whatever you choose, though, I'm sure you'll be happy smile On the other hand, WHY try and convince yourself you need to buy a watch? It sounds like you don't REALLY need or want either!

M.

Agree with the majority here - the Railmaster is a classic. The Breitling is to my eyes, a crash zone of everything they had in the spare parts box...

Between the two, I'd also go for the Railmaster, but neither fully works for me. The Breitling face is too frenetic, and Omega have IMO thrown the look out of balance by putting the arrow-head on the minute hand. The original Railmaster, with the arrow-head on the hour hand, looked much better I think.

I'd take a Navitimer over a Railmaster any day of the week, I just wouldn't take a white faced Navi under any circumstances ...... and if I had to choose between those I wouldn't buy either.

Railmaster. The nicest of the two you've posted and very different to your Sub.
