Hi folks, I'm toying with the idea of selling my beloved Rolex and maybe my IWC for something a bit different and to pocket a few quid towards a bike deposit, what're the daytonas selling for these days, specifically the black faced stainless steel ones?

It's in excellent condition, near perfect really. smile

Stu,

I'd say go onto ebay, sign in and then check the 'Completed' listings for a huge range of sold and unsold prices. That should give a good 'weather-vane' ballpark. The fact that you can walk into dealers in the US and pick one up now doesn't help the inflated prices asked for...

Seriously? I've been looking into one of these as I've promised myself one for my 30th next year. Pretty much every official place I've spoken to has said either 'you're wasting your time looking' or 'No problem, we can put you on a list and get you one in 2 years'.

What kind of money are they retailing for new in the US?

Well bonhams sold one last night, 2006 model including buyers fee over 7400

£6800 is lower than any where ive seen before, just make sure it has the new clasp and it's V Series. Thats the 2009 letter.

Seems very strange, when you can buy a good 2006 for circa £6500 from most reputable dealers.
Must be a bad case of 'auction fever'...

Absolutely. Even paying the premium here in the UK, you can get a new one for less than that, and if Jshell is right, then maybe those premiums are about to disappear. Please. God. I want one.blah

[beard]I didn't follow the Bonhams auction, but if it was a 2006 watch it would not have been an 'El Primero'. [/beard]nerd

thanks Dom, I did wonder about that, thought they stopped the El P's in the early 2000's?

They're now not worth the hugely inflated price now - and anyway, the speedmaster is a nicer looking watch for a 1/3rd of the cash. You can now buy a Speedy and a Rolex Sub for Daytona money!

Still, it'll be a long time before they're readily available in the UK at AD's.

I honestly think they've had their day - I turned down 2 from a dealer in Barcelona - and anyway there are rumours of a brand new Daytona coming out with a bigger case. (Hopefully a less shiny bezel too).
