They're alright aren't they The strap options are endless so the character of the watch can be completely changed with a tenner spent!

Very happy with mine too, feels like a precision bit of kit
Oh yes Still a bit gutted about losing my first one I had just after starting this thread, but I can put that behind me now.I see the Seiko 5 as the VW Golf of the watch world - a good looking, reasonably priced, quality watch which you can use anywhere (do I sound like a VAG fanboy? lol)

I was *this* close to buying one then I saw your comment. So they're boring as hell then? Bummer. Do they do an R32 equivalent?
Imagine taking a bright green
I had to wear one of those nasty
(I'm doing this right, aren't I? )

My one of these is on a green cloth strap which is perfect for what I need it for, which is wearing it with uniform.
It had stopped this morning, after 2 days of not wearing it after a hospital stay. I was a little surprised that it wouldn't last longer unworn, but a re-set and shake and it's spot-on once again.
If anyone's unsure about the Seiko 5, it's a cracking watch.
2 days seems the norm before it stops, at least with my previous 5 (wearing my new one all the time now ).It had stopped this morning, after 2 days of not wearing it after a hospital stay. No big deal, but I suspect that's a bit pants compared to the higher end auto watches?

Can't go wrong with a Seiko 5 although this one is slightly over budget:

They will still have the functions and sturdiness of a full Seiko 5.
Good old Seiko 5 I prefer automatics myself...http://amzn.to/16GWdvC

Just been checking watchshop - this looks rather tempting...

Speaking of silly cheap watches, did anyone take a punt at this thing?

Wondering about something with a similar budget just for fun for Christmas

I have had one for about 5 mounts it still works and holds time, I have never got it wet or warn it for anything challenging though. it gets plenty of positive comments a nice strap would make it look better.
Cheers :-) it's either one of those just for fun, or spend a bit more on one of these. I've got a very similar style casio (without the solar) though... ceebmoj said:

ETA - I assume you got yours on Fleabay?
Yep same seller as well I think. I may have posted some pictures up earlier in the thread. Something to look forward to at least... cos I think I've managed to lose my old Seiko again!!!! etc. etc. etc. (first world problems eh?)

It's busy. I do like it though. And a bargain price!
Tis rather, however it's different to other watches in my collection and I'm growing rather fond of it a few notesAccording to Santa it was bought from on the ebay sellers for under £20 including postage.
It's much larger than a Seiko 5, both in diameter and thickness, and a bit heavier.
The auto-winder doesn't seem to be as effective at first - you'll notice I posted that at 11am with the watch at 10:30... However there is a manual winder alongside the auto-winder. In the watch manual it says you can wind it up 20 turns, but I've only done it 2-3 turns after I took the pic and before going to bed last night, and it's still ticking away.
All the dials are functional - 24 hours dial (top left) day/night dial (top right) and seconds (red, centre) and below is an oscillating wotsit (I'm sure it's got a proper name) visible from the face - a nice touch.
On the back is a automatic movement weight, and the cogs/gears etc. visible. Weight aside none of these are polished so looks rather rough compared to a Seiko 5, in fact I was rather worried this was all for show until I saw some movement inside!
The strap has 'Genuine Leather' stamped onto it but I'm 99.9% sure it's faux leather - it seems ok though and does the job.
Can't comment on accuracy yet but nothing amiss yet. Manual says up to 35 seconds per day is normal, which is about the same as a Seiko 5.
Can't believe they can sell these at less than £20 and still make a profit? Especially for a functioning automatic/mechanical watch. I'm guessing either slave labour or an automated assembly line (being Chinese, I suspect the former...)

I believe you are referring to the balance wheel?ceebmoj said:
as a bonus mine is still going 7 mouths latter and +-30 seconds a day is about what I get.
How often do you need to manually wind yours - mine was going wearing it all day and winding it (one turn) before bedtime, last night though I didn't wind it and it stopped after about 5 hours.MarkRSi said:
