So, recommendations then...?

I know you're good at this so expectations are high!
Oh bloody hell. Ok, what style do you prefer? Pilot? Classic? Diver? Chrono? Something a bit crazy?

Classic. Plain. Not gazillions of dials. Suited to a grown-up work environment.

I appreciate the suggestions chaps, but nothing has felt right yet.

I've currently got a Seiko 5 in green, which is perfect for my daily uniformed needs (but broken). I either need to pay for a repair, or find somethiong equally suitable

Blimey! Just been quoted £115 to fix. Time to look for a new one I think.

Sell it for £20 on one of the forums for someone to try to fix up.

Still seems a pity not to be able to fix it. I like it, and new ones have got more expensive. I can't even see a sensilbly-priced green one on the bay of dreams.

Might just go quartz!
If you're really, really wanting a cheap automatic, I've bought 3 sub-£20 Chinese automatics since starting this thread and all operate fine. Although you need to wind them up manually so they keep going overnight (unlike the Seiko 5), and while they can look nice at a glance they tend to have way too many useless dials and nonsensical design details so won't fit your classic/plain criteria. Plus compared a Seiko 5 they're massive.

E.g.

Thanks - bit flashy for me. One of the things I like about the 5 is its visual simplicity and modest size.

I'm also looking out for a Seiko 5 but as already mentioned, they no longer fit this thread! Anyone bought from GB Watch Shop?

They're based in Glasgow. See if any local PHer would be able to pop in to check it's a legit shop/website. smile

Dammit, that's the exact one that's been sat in my desk draw since it received a hard knock and started gaining 5 minutes a day...
Buying a new one instead of getting it fixed seems a bit frivolous, but...
