My Planet Ocean and Black Monster both have very respectable lume that lasts all night.

Black Monster:

And the two together:

Thats the one dissapointing thing on my Tag Carrera Chrono . frown 12 tiny dots and then only a think sliver on each hand. Sometimes can't see it at night.

I have had the watch on every day nearly for a year and it still looks mint so not too upset!

The lume on my Monster only lasts a couple of hours, and starts to go dim very quickly, are you charging it up using a uv torch or by some other clever method that gives it an all night glow?

Nope, just normal lighting around the house.

Wow, those look amazing !

All my watches, Omega's, Rolex, Sieko's, Tag's etc only last a couple of hours.

They are all kept in a watch box and then I randomly wear whatever takes my fancy.

I guess because they are in the dark they don't keep enough "charge" ???

Am I right in remembering from schoolboys days (long time ago!) that lume in watches is radioactive?

There were ladies in america that painted the lume, they would lick the brush to make it nicely pointed unfortunately ingesting the radioactive lume didn't allow them to live very long and the building where they worked took up a whole block, this was demolished years ago and to this day the derilict site sends the geiger counters crazyeekfrownfrown

They used to have radium in them to exite the luminous material.

Now this energy has to come from light and stored in teh material thats why it fades after a short while.

The 5th picture down in my post is of a radioactive material in the lume called Tritium.

Tritium is a radioactive isotope of hydrogen sp you can still et radio active watches although I belive it is harmless

When I worked at Citizen the service/repair suites had "Radioactive - Danger" signs all over the place.

I love the blue colour of that face - what makes it a different colour to the usual green you see from luminescence? Different paint?

I just bought a mini-monster and the lume's nothing like as bright as the monsters shown here. Or as bright as my old seamaster for that matter.

I knew from the outset it wasn't a Monster, but rather the 100m Seiko 5.

Is a less bright lume to be expected with this piece?

Cheers
