I maybe looking to treat myself to a watch in the near future. Although I do have an early U-Boat Flightdeck, I am very green to buying premium watches.

I will have circa £1000 to spend, and my only real requirements are;

- metal strap
- suitable for everyday wear (i,e with a suit)

The Tag Heuer CAH1010.BA0854 F1 Series Grande Date Chronograph took my eye, and it appears to be reasonably priced at £788 on precision time.

Can anyone make recommendations of similar watches that I can consider? TIA F.O

Are you willing to look at used watches?

Although I appreciate I will get better VFM for a used watch - the money available is from inheritance, and would therefore prefer to buy something new.

OP, I'm in a similar position so I'm going to sit back and take in this thread if ya don't mind?

TBH I've thought about getting a nice watch for a long time, but I can never bring myself to spend that much on something I wear and could get easily damaged so I always chicken out....

ETA - If I finally took the plunge I'd probably never be able to make a decision as there is so much choice out there!

By all means, its a forum - so soak it up. :-)

I have home and contents insurance already, so would extend any current cover to the new purchase. A watch wont replace the grandparent either - but its a reminder of them.

I'd be looking at Sinn or Damasko. Subtle but different.

Have you got any other preferences? Do you like lots of dials/information or a simple watch face? Modern looking or classic? Diver style or something else?

How about an Oris TT3? The bonus of this automatic watch is it also has a glass display back, which shows off the movement - Pretty cool! www.swisswatchesdirect.co.uk have it for £730

All relevant questions Ikemi.
To answer;
Lots of dials i.e chrono, modern classic if thats possible and I do like the diver style.

Noticed sinn, and they are talked favourably on here. I think precision time had plenty of choice.

Does anyone have experience of PrecisionTime.co.uk? Their prices are very very keen, although not being an authorised seller does cause me some concern.

I haven't bought through them or know of anyone who has used PrecisionTime.co.uk, but a quick search seems to suggest that they are trusted:

However before you buy your watch, it might be worth dropping Dominic H (A well established member and all round top bloke!) an e-mail to see if he can help smile

I can't see any Sinn watches on Precision Time though? They're fairly expensive if you choose one on a bracelet too ... You'll probably end up, as we all do, increasing your budget! hehe

Sorry - It was Jurawatches.co.uk that had the Sinn watches. I dont doubt the more I browse, the bigger the budget will become.
Thanks for recommending Dominic too - will be sure to drop him a PM when I have made my mind up.

If you're buying Sinn, and new, then buy from Chronomaster. Neil comes highly recommended by many here, and I believe that his prices are a littler keener than Jura. These are the only two dealers for Sinn in the UK so there's little point using an intermediary like Dominic_H for Sinn.

An 856 or similar would make a great every day watch - I'm the third owner of my watch, and it has not a mark on it which would suggest that it is any more than a few months old.

Dear lord they are bad.. I mean truely awful service.

I only wanted to buy a £200 Tissot for the girlfriend. I ordered in the middle of November, nothing other than a confirmation by email for two weeks even though the delivery time was 14 days.

I emailed at the 14 day point and was given some gentle encouragement that all is well and they are just waiting for the stock to come in. Fine I thought, I've ordered well in time for Christmas.

Another week goes by and still nothing. I email again, and get told that they have spoken to Tissot (as my request) and the watch is being despatched within a day to Precision Time.

Another week goes by and still nothing.. I phone up and get a tiny bit stroppy with 'Simon' who apart from sounding like a fifteen year old, seems very unsure of his business despite quoting himself as a manager. Eventually I get him to admit that the watch isn't available before Christmas.

I argue that they could have found that out weeks ago and that a simple phone call would have meant I could have sourced the watch elsewhere.

I barely get an apology... I cancel my order and spent another few days scrabbling around trying to find the same watch elsewhere. I eventually did through Browns family jewellers for only a few pounds more who are an authorised dealer.

Please please avoid Precision Time. I've had so much stress that I'd not want another PH'er to go through it all.
