Just found my next watch (when I have the money!) - am now bored of Omegas and Rolexs, and want to go for something different and individual, but my concern is do these watches have a good pedigree that will be some store of value?

Thanks for any help

That's a serious piece of kit that you are looking at. They have massive pedigree and do hold their value well.

Would you ever recommend buying a watch like this second hand privately?

This advert seems too good to be true, and the poor spelling of the advert makes me a little concerned

Nice watch that, the advert doesn't seem that dubious to me.
If your unsure why not get the watch verified, if the seller is genuine there wont be a problem surely?

Do you mean go together to a local Watches of Switzerland for example and ask them to verify it?

Yes that would be a good way to verify it. Although there are stories of fakes getting past dealers, the best way is to have the back off...

The advert and paper work looks genuine, but the price is far too generous for what is being offered. It could be a cracking deal, but as with anything if it is too good to be true then it usually is.

In my opinion it looks too good to be true, so I would be careful.

ETA: A quick google search shows that these pieces are very sort after and are on the market for over 7K.

This is the bit which gets alarm bells ringing "The Model Is (I Think!) IW978901". The model is in fact IW378901. Surely if he has the documentation it would take him 10 seconds to get the correct model number smile

Quite bizarre
In the pic with the paperwork you can clearly see the model number.
Run,run away.

Agreed.

The "non" version would be my choice.

If you've not seen one in the flesh/tried one on, I'd recommend doing so before laying out cash. Quite chunky watches.

do NOT buy that watch. no way - definitely a scam - either a fake or less likely its stolen. he could take that watch to any dealer and get significantly more than it is offered for. and i agree about the model number part!

My OH has a Top Gun Double Chronograph that he will be looking to sell. We haven't got round to advertising it yet.

PM me if/when you are in a position to buy and are interested. All paperwork and packaging, plus a Big Pilot strap and deployment clasp which he bought as an alternative to the supplied strap.

I'm sure we can find a mutually acceptable method of authenticating it. It was purchased from Fraser Hart in Kingston-upon-Thames.

Just can't go wrong with IWC. I don't normally like those Kevlar straps but in this watch it looks really good.

i agree, its a great looking watch from a great brand...my mind says it should be tacky being that its a "top gun" watch but for some reason i dont think it is...the panerai ferrari would be much more of a writs faux-pas in my humble opinion
