I have an Omega Magic Watch (see the picture at http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=501)

and also an Omega Equinoxe (see the picture at http://www.omegawatches.com/index.php?id=502)

Both require batteries and I have been quoted £65 each plus £15 each for the "cost" of sending them to Omega.

This seems an outrageous amount. Is there a reliable cheaper alternative?

Thanks

That sounds about right if Omega were to carry out the battery change ... I was quoted similar (for research purposes!) when I had a Tag Calibre S!

A jewellers would most likely change the battery for £10, whereas the Omega service may include additional extras, such as new seals and guaranteed water resistance to a particular depth - This was the noted difference between a jewellers and Tag Heuer smile

I would write more, but I'm on my phone!

Given the highly unusual nature/construction of these pieces, I'd do a little homework to find a watchmaker familiar with the types.
Have a look here to find your nearest BHI accredited watchmaker...

Alternatively, Omega send most of the older calibre stuff to Swiss Time Services, give them a call and check the direct price..

Nice watches by the way, haven't seen either in years....

Nollub,

Mid 2009 I needed my Omega Seamaster "JB" (quartz) to be serviced and eventually decided on Swiss Time Services. They were really great. I took the watch there myself (turns out you then get a very quick service, had it mailed back inside a week, whereas if you mail it it's three weeks), complete job, service, new seals, a new battery etc. The price is fixed, by Omega UK not STS, at £180. Interestingly, they apologised for the cost set by Omega, and then spotted I was wearing my Porsche Design PO11 and they said that the same job for it would be about £80-£100.

I doubt if you can get STS to do a simple battery replacement, but you can always ask!

Hope this helps.

R.

Just had the battery officially replaced in my Aerospace, and it was returned to me in a sexy complimentary Brietling zip-case. All for 35 quid.
