I have quite a few watches, most of them are sub £200 ones that I like and just don't see the point in parting with. The trouble is that leaving them sat in a drawer means they end up needing batteries, or I break the pins, or I find I have outgrown the straps and need that extra link putting back in.

What would I need to do these very basic repairs myself and save the hassle and cash of going to a watch repairer? I am not planning to any work to them and I wouldn't open one of my 2 good watches ever so probably don't need the most expensive kit available.

I have lately had cause to visit a largish branch of Maplins and have noticed a range of 'Rolson' branded watch tools. They aren't expensive, and I took the opportunity to pick up an assortment of spring pins and spectacle srews for peanuts, but what's the quality of the openers, case holders and other, more complicated stuff that they do?
