I have been asked for advice on a pre-wedding present by the wife of a good friend of mine.

He already has a Rolex Explorer II black face and a Cartier Santos 100 (black strap & stainless), so you get the idea he likes his chunky watches.

He doesnt do thinner dress watch styles, which narrows the search considerably.

Budget is £3-4k and looking for inspiration.

(I have pointed out IWC Aquatimer, IWC big pilot, Breguet XX so far)

Ouch! LB is an Omega fetishist though!(Refuse to call anyone a fanboy)
Personally I'd prefer a vintage or ltd edition piece as a wedding gift, something a bit special.

yes He doesn't want to be wearing what half the congregation are wearing... Thought about a GlasHutte sport? Or, at a stretch, a used blancpain fifty fathoms? JLC MC, GP Laureto evo III?

For that money, I'd get something used, with some provenance, rather than new and 'goldsmiths shop window'...

why would he want to wear an omega or breitling, etc. given affordable alternatives, unless he didn't know any different?

Fair point... they were 'bad' choices.

Aye, that I be! I think that's becoming well known on here and TZ! wink
A vintage would be lovely, although they are very personal dependent...
Although if new, I would be hard pushed to not have a JLC Hometime...

Now that is gorgeous!cloud9

Don't think an Omega is ever a bad choice LB! Bought the Wife a vintage Omega last week for her 30th, and it makes me want a speedy pro even more for my 40th.biggrin

IMHO if you're going to spend £3-4k on a watch then buying an Omega isn't the 'best' choice available to you in the market place. This is all clearly highly subjective thumbup

I'm trying to decide if it's my 'grail' watch or not... I suppose 'grail' doesn't necessarily have to be the most expensive you're ever going to buy! smile

No, but I guess fergus was right. Although I guess it is all down to personal opinion... scratchchin
Get a Speedy, they are fabulous! I don't have the Pro (couldn't be doing without a date on it!) but it is a stunning watch.

I feel sorry for the OP, I wouldn't want to be the one making this choice for a grooms wedding watch, the decision is very subjective and personal as we have seen from the threads posted and the budget suggested opens up quite a wide choice of makes and styles.

Me, I chose a Speedy Pro for my Wedding Day gift, not new but something with a bit of age to it, looked great with my suit and is a style I will never tire of so will always want to wear. I think it is vital that you choose a classic timeless design as this watch (like the new wife is planned to be a keeper.. wink)

Can't say it ever entered my head that I would be wearing the same watch as everybody else in the congregation, having said that I don't think I know anybody who is "into" watches or whom wear expensive watches.
So all in I feel I made the right choice and beyond the Omega Pro, if I were in this position to choose for someone else I would choose a vinatge sub, I love mine and again a classic timless design.

Good luck
