Just found one of my fathers old watches. It is an HP-01 with box, pen and battery holder. Any idea of the value? I was about to put it in the bin!

WOW, obviously what ever you do it would not be wise to put this in the Bin as it will be very much in demand for someone.

Not sure of value at it is hard to put one on something what looks like stunning condition, but 500 to 1000 GBP would not surprise me.

Post some pictures on some other dedicated watch forums, and see what interest it attracts, otherwise keep it, in this condition it will only go up.

Nice one.

err, don’t throw it away … !

I think I can offer some knowledge based advice on this. I have hoarded best part of 1000+ Digitals, with many 70's LED / LCD Calculator watches. Generally speaking they have been superb investments, even now. The HP01 is right up in the top 5 most desirable LED watches there is. (The others in this bracket are models like the Solid Gold Pulsar Calculators £4k-15k, and Uranus circular LED calc £1-3k, and the National Semiconductor Scientific calculator watch £0.5-£1.5k and others)

Things like working status, battery acid evidence, overall cosmetic condition, and what boxes and papers it comes with, and other factors, will all determine its price. For watches like the HP01 there is quite a following of knowledgeable collectors who, using ebay, will know what to look for and bid accordingly.

The HP01 you see below was sold on ebay by me a few months ago and went for a shade over £1,500. It was in very nice shape (but not mint) and useable day to day, and it did have the inner and outer boxes, all manuals, the clamp for removing the case back, the pen, the manual, the wallet summary and so on. I have another which really is truly mint mint in the box, but that’s an investment.

A complete set in mint condition can fetch between £2,000 to £3,500.

Tidy ones, working, with a few light scratches, but without any boxes or other parts, will trade in the £350-800 range or so.

If you want to sell it, take a series of clear crisp photos using a decent camera, include a few close ups of front from various angles, rear, strap, and battery compartment (caseback removed), resize them down to no more than 800x800 (like the image below) and put it up on ebay with an honest summary. The market will determine the price.

Good luck !

(and the funny looking casio bottom right is a calculator ... its face flips open to reveal a keypad, display, alarm and memo pad undereneath !)
