Gents,

I know that we can all have strong opinions which are expressed on the forums but I like to think that there is a code of conduct between watch enthusiasts.

I ask for advice from the group. I am in the process of selling my SMP Mid-sized and I have received an email from a member of a different forum and we agreed a sale. Problem is, he has not come to collect the watch nor has he paid. I was informed that he would come last Thursday and never showed up. I called repeatedly to no answer, sent about three messages and I received a PM in the evening saying that something had come up. I have not heard from him since and I have therefore contacted another interested party from Pistonheads.

The interested party was very prompt at replying to emails as was I. I sent the interested party an email with the information requested on 12th of February and another just to see if the email was received and I am yet to hear from anyone.

My question is, am I being unrealistic in my expectations of fellow enthusiasts? Or is what is going on just plain rude?

In my humble opinion, if the prospective buyer has not shown any interest after the initial contact, then the watch is fair game to whoever wants it. Sorry, but life is too short to hang around waiting for people - I say sell it to the other party.

It's a bit rude, but unfortunately it is part and parcel of selling on the Internet. I have experienced similar and always ruled in favour of whoever could come up with the funds first smile On the other side, if I lose interest in an item, I always send a message back asap stating that I've changed my mind - I don't like messing people about ...

Just be happy it's not like selling cars - Test pilots n' all! wink

Two sides to every story & all that, but seems pretty rude from what you say.

I'd send a politely worded "please complete the deal by XXXXX or I'll be putting the watch up for sale again" message.

You are being way too considerate, the guy let you down and whilst its dissapointing for you to restart thats all you can do. Not much you can do about the small % of people who cant be arsed to show respect for others...

"Something came up" just isn't good enough, forget the fool.

I'll vouch for Chris if you want to do a deal. Top bloke, knows his watches, has good taste and won't mess you about.

Certainly, it is his duty to respond and let you know immediately what is going on. Sadly, it's a reflection of modern times.

Very nice thank you. I'm really struggling to find anything nicer so right now price isn't the issue. Sorry.

Gents,

Sorry to bring this up again, but am I expecting too much?

As you all know I am trying to sell the mid sized SMP, nothing dodgy about it and I always reply to emails promptly etc. On two occasions I have had interested parties who have then sourced watches from else where, yet have left me hanging.

Surely (I know I do), if you enquire about a watch for sale and receive a reply with the information requested, should you not let the seller know that you no longer require their services? Especially when dealing on forums, where prices are usually considerably less than high street.

Sorry just a little disappointed.

I guess it all depends on the type of person you are dealing with ... Personally, I would message back and state I was no longer interested, which would then prevent any uncertainty on your part if you received another offer.

However being the Internet n' all, it's far easier just to drop contact - Then what can you do?

I replied to your email lastnight, But since emails dont seem to be getting through for some reason.

I'll say it here,

Ive acquire a watch from another person, Im sorry that i didnt email you sooner but I was dealing with 7 different people and it was unfortunate that I missed you out when i was emailing everyone thanking them for their time and patience.

Your watch is a very nice example btw and looks rather nice on the aftermarket strap.

Sorry again.

Not a problem Owyn, it is just that I am having a long line of people that are doing this. Whilst mistakes are easy to be made, I am sure that all of us are not too pleased to be on the receiving end.

Thanks for the compliments on the watch. I am sure that you have a lovely example.
