To be honest, watches are not usually seen as good investments, unless you pay large chunks of money for something particularly special such as a Patek Philippe, A. Lange & Sohne or a Greubel Forsey. However you could choose a watch that will depreciate less than others ...

Personally for £4K, I'd choose something I would really like! Depreciation would play a small factor in my decision, but not the be all and end all. smile Alternatively you could always go second hand and not take that instantaneous hit upon purchase.

What he said ^^^

its a mine field.

Some go up some go down.

Something not made anymore but with a cult following is likely to go up or at least stay where it is like a Sinn EZM 1.

I would say your money is probably safe with one of teh yearly ltd edition Panerai for example.

Take the 4k and put it into some mutual funds. may not be as fun as a watch, but probably a better investment if you do some research.

I should have said; forget monetary investments - presume they're covered. I have a new model GMT Master II, 2 Tudor and a Fortis Flieger. I'm just after an addition to these but want something of quality, preferably second hand and probably from a manufacturer that makes their own movements. I'm not interested in some of the more "fashionable" brands that in reality have little intrinsic value.

I would suggest any good plexi sports Rolex with papers or a Bexley service ticket would be a reasonable punt (esp a 1680 or matte 5512/3 sub.)

As mentioned earlier a good (old model) Sea Dweller wouldn't be a bad bet either

All the talk is of various Rolex models but with most forms of investment if you jump on a something that is already popular you get burned.

There's also the fact that most sports Rolex models are very popular, so there's going to be plenty of supply in years to come.

Best investment would really have to be a vintage. A Cal 321 Speedmaster, an early Sea Dweller or 5512/5513 Submariner would all be good bets.
Nothing modern (IMO) is going to be a good investment as there are just too many made nowadays. Even 'Limited editions' are not really that anymore the Sub LV has been made in massive quantities! Omega make most of their 'limiteds' in big numbers as well...
