Good man! thumbup

I tried on a friends one the other day (first time for me) and very much liked it. It wasn't quite as hefty as I expected (I think my Seamaster feels chunkier, but that could just be perception? I have no idea how they compare...) but I loved it.
I want one NOW.

Which is bloody annoying as I don't have £3k kicking around! wink

Can you get a 16600 SD for that money? I thought they were nearer £4k+ especially with the new Deep Sea being silly money. And also because not *everyone* can wear the Deep Sea without it looking idiotically large and vulgar (you'll be needing big arms), whereas whilst the 16600 is thick, it's small enough to suit anyone really...

I see it as the rich man's Monster really... it'll last forever, take any sort of abuse (within reason) and never really go out of style.

not having a go but seems funny you think the SDDS is expensive when you are happy to pay for the Intel SSD....

Yeah, you can. There is one on TZ right now that is up at £3050. There have been a few recently on there around the £3250ish mark (±£100 or so). There have been a few on the 'bay that have recently finished around the £3k mark.
One on a NATO went for £2350 on there a few weeks back... didn't think it was that much of a bargain, but I rather wish I'd had a flutter now!
I think now that the 16600 is no longer on the pricelist, a few places are trying it on with quite high prices. Well that's IMO anyway...
Rumours on TZ about a new one would be good, as they'd hopefully have a nice impact on 2nd hand prices! smile
The Deep Sea is a definite no go for me... not only in the size, but also the cost (there are other things I'd sooner have before blowing £5k on one). The size will always preclude it anyway... too thick for me. I'd look like a toddler wearing his dad's watch! wink

Agreed except the size thing, I have just bought one so I will see if it looks silly on my small wrist. Can a 40mm wide by 14mm deep watch really look too big? Its no bigger then a SAR for example. The SD in modern terms is a tiddler. I flipped the Breilting steelfish I had which at 42mm x 15+mm or so is a bit bigger again, also much heavier but I still wore it fine and it never looked too big. ISTR my internet trawling indicates the SD is at least 20g lighter so will feel more comfortable to wear for long periods. Perhaps the issue with the SD is the deep case back? For me personally this is a good thing, I like watches with deeply curved case backs as they sink into my wrist better and stay put. This makes the watch look a few mm thinner. I used to enjoy wearing the PRS-50 for example which is real heavy beast but on me it always felt comfortable. I can't wear seamasters for example as the case back is to flat for me and the crown digs in. Likewise JLC as I really wanted to aim for one, tried one on, it didn't look or feel right then I noticed most of their models seem to have very flat case backs.

My only worry was that it may be a little small, as its a tiny bit smaller then the gmt II and that doesnt look big on me. I have distinctly average wrists but large forearms and biceps due to a penchant for body building.

But then I pondered that I was wearing a casio A168, which is amazingly retro cool but by no means large in any sense of the word big and it looked ok, so I went for it

you won't regret the SD! Mine is my daily desk diver. Understated but perfectly proportioned to stand out from the more common GMT, without looking comical like the new DSSD.

Bizarre comment... the technology stuff is the tools of my profession - the Intel SSD may be expensive but it makes my day-to-day consulting laptop a LOT faster, hence I get more work done and less frustrated waiting for the machine to finish tasks (and with fixed income analytics, the calcs can take some time to complete). As far as I'm concerned, the Intel SSD pays for itself. It's a business expense as well, and it's an order of magnitude less expensive than the Rolex wristwatch... (I paid around £400 for the 160 GB Intel G2).

Whereas a Rolex watch (well, any watch) is a pure luxury. I already have accurate time with my phone and laptop. Quite why you're comparing my views on business tools to luxuries is beyond me really... there's a big difference between cost and value. I'd agree with you if I were advocating the Intel SSD as tech-jewellery, for those that don't need it but want to say they've got the latest / fastest kit. However, in my case, this isn't so.
