I'm limited in more ways than one at the moment ... Last weekend I moved into my new place (Hurrah!), which now comes complete with 330 lovely mortgage payments to curb my watch expediture (Boo!). If that wasn't bad enough, BT have quoted 20-25 days before I can have a working Internet connection! eek I'm already suffering from withdrawal symptoms, and even though I have Internet access at work, the majority of images on here are blocked! frown

So pretty annoying! Anyway, not all is lost! I'm looking for the next fix, which I hope to get some time in the Summer - Providing the boiler doesn't fail wink I quite fancy something that preferably isn't a diver's watch, something with a see-through display back and maybe with chrono function for £2K or less? At the moment I really like the Victorinox Swiss Army Dive Master 500 Mecha or the Tag Heuer Carrera Chronograph!

Not sure whether to buy the Dive Master 500 sooner in the year, or wait a little longer and save for the Carrera? Any thoughts or other suggestions?

Out of interest, is the movement in the Carrera based on a VJ7750?

You don't want a diver's watch, yet are looking at the Dive Master 500?

The Dive master has neither a see-through back nor a chrono function.

Yep, it's based on the 7750 AFAIK. The Dive Master contains an elaborate grade ETA 2892-A2 movement.

I think the Dive Master would make a very durable daily-wearer and I really like the gun-metal bracelet. The movement is great too for that price. Having said that, If you're really strapped for cash, there's always the cheaper quartz version. As above, your post is confusing though.

Mark.

I have that Carerra on a black leather strap. Had it for over a year now. Very nice no issues. My first proper watch brought for myself on my birthday on instinct.

Does it have to be new?

Because to be honest 2k on the used market will get you any number of fantastic chronos, some with in-house movements that are streets better than the one you suggest (in my opinion of course).

The Chronomaster update today, has a hand wind Zenith El Primero with bracelet for under £1700 which I reckon is amazing value for probably the best chronograph movement ever made. Also a beautiful watch, though I would say that. wink

Mmmm! Just had a lookd.

There's a couple of tasty looking IWC Chronos above that aswell.

And a couple of Anonimos in there aswell. You can get new ones for ~£2k, but not sure if that includes the chrono ones.

hehe

I suppose I don't really know what I want at the moment, as I'd prefer something a little different to a diver, but then again I am taken by the Dive Master 500! I think I'll wait it out for a bit and save - See what comes along smile

Cheers for the heads up on the Chronomaster update - There are some nice pieces there! I'll have a look back there later into the year smile

ah wink. My point is, you need to really think about what you want. Otherwise you might end up with something non-satisfactory. Best of luck.

Thanks for the info VXR - I think you're right smile I need to make my mind up what I'd like next! I'd really like a watch with a display back, but then again my small collection is lacking a chrono! wink

Speedmaster Pro with Sapphire back ticks both boxes, and should have a place in every watch collection. Absolutely achievable for well under £2k used, too.
