when I got the chance to aquire one of these, well I just couldn't resist. It is a Marathon TSAR 2008 contract and have it for nearly a week now, and have to say the majority of the others have not had a look in.

41mm across the case, 46mm inc crown, high torque Swiss quartz movement - which after a week is accurate to the second. It is a little taller than my others and took a little while to get used to, but it is very comfortable. The bracelet is a work of engineering art and as well as the usual US Government clasp the watch came with a brand new pristine Maple Leaf clasp. The tritium tubes glow like a torch all night and dead easy to read in the dark.

Without further a do, some pictures -

For the money - circa £350 it is one of the best, hard as nails, grab it and go watches that you can buy - well, in my opinion anyway.

I like your way of reducing your collection Mr Bond, I don't think it'll work but you'll have good fun trying. My wife similarly reduces her collection of shoes every few weeks by a trip to the shops.

The Marathons are really good though, I remain to be tempted by quartz but it's certainly well cased and well designed for it's use, good one!

The rehaut on that is utterly insane. Quite what is going on in there? Is the crystal a centimetre thick, or is the hand stack a centimetre tall, or is this due to the height of the tritium tube registers?

We need pics of the bracelet and clasp if you're going to call them 'engineering art' - looks like a typical Oyster design to me from here smile

Looks tough and well made, but as andy_s says, I remain to be convinced by quartz at more than £100 and I simply will not wear *anything* with 'government' written on it unless it's 'fk the government' (and I'm a bit old for that sort of open rebellion any more). Sad, but I have a bit of a problem with governments...

Feel your pain regarding 'reducing the collection' - I've been trying for a while now and have only managed to reduce my collection by -1 hehe

Had one of these, regrettably not on the bracelet, but they are cracking value.

Number of watches in collection = n + 1

Where n is defined as number of watches in collection.

CmdrBond - Slightly off-topic, but which aircraft did the ASI come from?

I have no idea unfortunatley - I got it for a few quid from a shop in Lincoln purely for photographic purposes.

The shop has all kinds of junk - ASI's, Altimeter's, Oil pressure gauges and other items that I don't know what they are. How the guy does a stock take is anyones guess.

If you ever find yourself in Lincoln, walk out of the town centre up Steep Hill (appropriate name BTW) and on your right at the bottom just as the gradient starts to get steeper is the shop with all these items in the window.
