I was originally planning to beat my wallet sufficiently to get a new car as a birthday prezzie to self, but seeing as prices are still a bit too much on the strident side (and your average dealer doesn't seem to have cottoned on to the recent plate change and how it might just impact values/prices a touch) I'm now looking at a timepiece replacement program instead. smile

I'm not quite 100% decided yet, mainly because I can't make my mind up on what to get. If I can, unless the value is rotten, I'd probably trade my existing watch in (I'm not really the type of person to have a collection). Thing is, I've no idea what I should be expecting for it, value wise, so whether it is worth bothering or not. Here's a little pic:

It is the titanium one, about 5 1/2 years old & I have the box & papers (the one thing I haven't found yet is the receipt - not where I expected it to be!). The only one I've found online on one of the usual suspect sites is up for £700 but is a bit newer and doesn't have anything like the same degree of desk diver scars!

Any views on what I might expect against a replacement in the £1.5k - £2.5k (ish) range? I don't have any idea what kind of mark up goes on pre-owned stuff and what kind of flexibility there might be in a similar vein to cost to change on a car.

The next question is what the hell to buy instead (or possibly as well as)? I have been thinking about going down Planet Ocean drive (either a lightly used one at a local dealers that's a decent price or our resident DomH) but have read one or two things which suggest that the anti-reflective coating on the outside of the crystal is easily scratched and can become unsightly. So, it made me think a little about what else I might get.
I prefer drivers to dress watches and don't like anything too small as I just don't think they suit (the Oris is plenty thick enough but diameter wise it certainly doesn't look anything like too big) & so far I've come up with:

1] Planet Ocean non chrono big size (chrono unreliable? & I'm not really fussed about it anyway) & don't worry about the AR coating.

2] Breitling Superocean Steelfish. Not to everyone's tastes, I know, but I don't mind 'em looks wise as they aren't too Blingling and they might be a little cheaper than the PO. Admittedly I don't know that much else about them and whether it is a good idea or not.

3] Budget-buster option - A Sea-Dweller or a Panny Submersible. Either are more than I want to spend, I'm not necessarily a big fan of Rolex (also might be a bit small) and I always have some apprehension about what is under the hood of the Panerai (and whether the prices will at some point soften somewhat). However, the SD appeals to the beanie in me and I've been very tempted to acquire a Panerai several times over the last few years - like the looks!

4] Anything else????

Any suggestions/direction greatfully received. At the rate I'm going at the moment I'll probably be looking at next birthday before I get anywhere.biggrin

As with cars, you're usually much better of selling privately than trying to PX. I sincerely doubt a dealer would give you more than £300 - £400 for your Oris

as for alternatives I give you

A new Sinn U1

or other U Series, or a pre-owned Chrono Avenger

as possible options.
