Basically, I have just seen a watch that I wish to buy, it is a late 50's LeCoultre with power reserve indicator but was wondering what is the reason that some watches are Jaegar LeCoultre while some are just LeCoultre. I am sure that I read somewhere that the Jaegar ones are/were for the Euro market whilst LeCoultre was for the american market. Does anybody know or can someone point me in the right direction please.

I think you basically have it right - LeCoultre marked watches were sold in the American market until about the 80s I think, when they standardised on Jaeger-LeCoultre. No idea on the rationale I'm afraid.

I'd expect a search on timezone.com would turn up some info.
