Which "Hard as Nails" watch?
Discussion
I'm looking for a watch that's tough!
It's going to be worn in the sea for diving (50m max) surfing, kayaking and generally taking a few knocks.
Budget up to £500 but happy to pay less
Would prefer an all black watch as the nasty fishes here like to bite shiny things
What do you recommend?

Yep. A G-shock of some description is the toughest watch you can buy.

I'm not sure how the black dial numbers would work out in less than clear water, could be an issue on a divers watch but nothing a bit of additional lume work wouldn't sort out. Does seem to have a lot of spec for the price.
Anyone got any other comments on them?
Thanks for the Military watch suggestions, they are probably very rugged but I'm not really into their styling.

and if you want an automatic, go with a Seiko Night Monster.
I think that sums up this forum's viewpoint on affordable durable watches.

Takes a real man to carry-off a Purple Night Monster.
A bit all-or-nothing, though: works as a pristine queen, or with lots of lumps knocked out of it from a hard life on the seabed, but one or two dings and it would look awful.

How about one of these
scroll down for the balck(PVD) versions comes with rubber and metal bracelet $550 or cheaper with leather and rubber $450 so well under budget

ok its quartz and I don't have one of these so cant testify as to how tough but its 500m Rated
my other benarus watches you could use to hammer nails in.
here is another pic this is the stainless version . It should be tough i recon

Cheap as chips ... £30
You must live in the posh part of town. Indeed I do... However it seems that due to the collapse of just about every western currency since the property and banking bubble popping, the cheap as chips Vostok is now around £75 delivered!
Bloody shame. Great watch that does everything the OP specified. Can be worn when working on the car as its a real watch and not a gay boy equivalent to Jimmy Chooz. Doesnt matter if you scuff it as you can afford a few spares.
