The next watch I am looking to add to the collection is a birth year watch. I was born in 1980. I already have a Seiko 5, Astroavia and a Tag Carrera ( all in Black.. oops )

So what would your suggestions be?

1980's......vintage? God, I must be getting old.

Can't we call 80's watches retro? It'll make me feel better hehe

Nice. Caught up with an old mate last night and he has one, never used to like them but seeing ne in the flash made me reconsider. However I just exchanged on a house yesterday so will now have to impose a budget of £500 max. Makes it more difficult, sorry! I was thinking something more out there, and lesser known like a PolJot?

Ha! I meant vintage as in not 2nd hand.. older! 30 years older ! ;P

When I think of retro watches I think of a new watch with a retro style, and lots of weird casios with calculator functions!

Any more ideas on a Sub £500 19080's watch? I was thinking ex Helicopter Pilot Seiko Chronograph may be worth a shout. I think they are quartz though, but that doesn't bother me so much as the military issue part will bump up the interest factor ;P

I think it wasn't till '84 that the RAF starting issuing them (Gen 1, Gen 2 was in the nineties iirc). Shame as it's a nice watch anyway. I pick mine (civilian version) up at the weekend after a service.

Are you on TZ?

I have a very nice Zenith Port Royal quartz from around 1980 that is available..

Good year to be born 1980 wink

That Speedy pro looks fantastic, I wouldn't have thought many of them would still have the box's anymore either.

I'm still recovering from purchasing a PO for my 30th so it will be a while till I pick up a birth year watch but I'm thinking it'll be either a Sub or Air King I go for.

How about this http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1980-Omega-9ct-Gold-Presenta... nice history to it too.

TZ-UK still take newcomers, try signing up during office hours, thats how I got in.

1980; a superb year, in fact, to be born hehe

(I'll be 30 in October).

That brand new 1980 speedy really is tempting - for only £1600 or so I think it was too. Fantastic value.

I'm thining about another watch, and considering a vintage Monaco, but there's so many lovely watches out there, it's difficult!
