On a two month old Rolex ladies Datejust which is gaining about 1 min per week, is there anything short of sending it back to Rolex that can be done? The owner doesn't want to be without it for the month or so it takes to send back to the factory.

Is this normal 'reliability' from such a premium brand?

Thanks!

My Milgauss gains approx 1 min every 2-3 months i would guess. Sounds excessive to me

About +/-5 secs a day is standard, as that's the COSC measure (confirmed on the link below)

http://www.chronocentric.com/watches/accuracy.shtm...

To adjust a bit, without whipping the back off.

Used to be:

Resting on crown/"Crown Down": Slow down
Resting on other side with crown up/"Crown Up": Speed ip
Resting with caseback on top of bracelet/"Dial Up": Speed up even more

Interesting. I bought an Airking about a year ago, which I hasten to add has been found on Mrs MoJos wrist ever since (ironic as she categorically states she has no interest in watches scratchchin ) and it gains pretty much what the op says their Oyster does, has done since new.

Not a major concern, but I may try the resting on crown idea. SWMBO usually rests it on its strap/case back over night, so it may be worth a try.

I wear mine 24 hours day, every day - only taking off to wash the car e.t.c. I wonder if this helps with the accuracy of the watch scratchchin

Don't think so, as my partner has done the same since receiving it and its having this issue. Its the reason we went for Rolex as opposed to some of the other watchmakers, such as Jaeger Le Coutre, which was my favourite.

Thanks for the replies by the way. I guess we'll have to send it back...

Sounds excessive to me. Mine certainly is not 10 mins fast after 2 months.

Mine's about 2 mins a month fast, I adjust it to 1 min slow when I change the date and next time I change it it's about 1 min fast.

4 mins a month seems a lot.

(Yours is +8 secs a day, COSC is between -4/+6secs per day)

Yes, she reckons its actually slightly more than that as between Friday and Saturday it has gained around 15 seconds.

Anyways, I was all set to buy myself a Rolex too but this is putting me off, we'll see what the customer service is like.

Since returning from it's last service my GMT II is gaining 3secs every ten days. At one point a few years ago it was within a second a month!

Just checked mine out of curiosity. Since i last adjusted the time, and gave it a little manual wind (BST-28th March) mine is running 17 seconds fast. After 45 days, I'm happy with that smile

Worn it every day since new - about 20 months.

We will take it back to WOS then, will let you know how it goes in a few months.

On the wearing constanly theory, she hasn't taken it off since it arrived, ever (not for sleep, not for sports, not for swimming, etc). In fact, we had wondered if that could be the reason for the excessive speed.

I'd like to know the outcome. I suspect they might laugh you out of the shop.

Have you thought of buying her a quartz watch?

Sorry. I was trying to suggest that it's an acceptable inaccuracy in my books. All the best getting the outcome you want, though.

I understand, sorry if my response was a bit too agressive.

I think 5 minutes per month is a bit much, thats an hour per year. Anyways, we'll see what response I get.
