Seiko 5 Auto..
Discussion
Hi,
I have a 70's possibly early 80's, Seiko 5 Automatic 21 Jewel watch, it says 6119 7080R on it. I know it's probably not worth much, but I like it and it has some sentimental value. It's currently too big and needs a few links removing to fit me, the few places I've been to get this done have fobbed me off saying that they can't do it because it's an old watch and different kind of strap to the ones nowadays. Does anyone have any idea where to go to get this done?
I've a feeling they didn't see it of much worth so they couldn't be bothered doing it for me, but surely back in the 70's not everyone had the same size wrists?! It's got to be do-able!
I'm in the Manchester area too if that helps, thanks in advance.
Ryan.

They're likely talking st. I don't know why they wouldn't just charge their standard hourly rate. I bet you could do it yourself if you have a microscrewdriver... flat head around 2mm wide or less. Look on the inside of the bracelet - there might be an indentation to allow slight "sliding" of the links. (I just had a look at my 1970s Seiko 5.)
If you're not sure, post up a photo of the inside of the bracelet near the clasp. You could also just swap the bracelet over for a leather strap.

If you know roughly the decade the watch is you can type in the serial number and movement number into the link and it'll tell you the year. I'd say it's probably 70's if it's a 6119 movement though.

Well I thought I'd have a crack myself.
Oh look, it's the un-adjustable watch. The 'expert' at the watch place spent 30 minutes on it apparently before realising he couldn't do it. Funny how me, the novice spent 10 mins! Won't be going back there again, they can get stuffed!
Thanks for your help everyone!

Tanith says you're a tt! Only joking, glad you've sorted it and it's even more satisfying to do it yourself.
Nice one!
I might visit there anyway and give her a slap!
Aye, well 'appy!
