Im looking to get a cheapy (but reliable and sturdy) watch to use when working in the garage / garden etc.

Im managing to keep bending or breaking the springs on my 2 usual watches, and with these being worth a few quid I'd rather have a 'general use' watch that can take on the nastier tasks without that element of risk.

So whats about for bottom end money?

Cheers in advance! thumbup

I know Im bringing down the tone in amongst all the watch finery in this part of the forums - but surely theres a 'default' run of the mill watch purchase (along the same lines as the MX5 type response to many 'what car' threads in these pages)?

Rugged, reliable and reasonably priced...?

I've had a few Swatch watches that were fine for this kind of thing. They're not too bulky, so don't catch on stuff and being made of plastic they're safe for working on the car. I found they generally survived a couple of years' fairly rough use.

The 'Jelly in Jelly' range is the one to look at if you have big wrists.

I don't think there's a "default option" at that money tbh.
Just buy any Casio digital (£14.95) and abuse it like a ginger stepchild.

Repeat....

I recently was given a rather nice Tag Carrera as an engagement present, which I was hesitant to use while up to my elbows in grease, so I dug out my old Ingersoll Navigator, it needed a battery and a strap, so that done I have this for use when doing heavy mechanical stuff (quite regular on my car),

obligatory 'lume' shot because after 12 years, it still works....

Its not in the best shape, but it runs and will do fine for what I want, total outlay ? About 20 quid to recommission.

Casio G Shock. Not sure if its 20 quid low but will be the best choice.

The G Shock is the MX5 of the Watch Forum.

If Indiana Jones had been able to throw himself inside a G Shock Watch, rather than a fridge, in the last movie when the nuclear bomb went off no one would have questioned his chances of survival wink

Cheers chaps!

I'll get the 2 Tags repaired and try to pick up a casio or seiko at the same time - for the sake of about 30 quid or so its gotta be worth it.

Like the look of some of the G-shock range (perhaps some of the less bulky models), so I'll see whats about on the high street.

What I dont need to be doing right now is picking up another 'hobby' wink

I wouldn't wear anything conductive whilst working around an engine. You only need to brush against the starter motor / alternator cable and it'll be red hot in an instant.

The correct answer is to stick a cheap AA battery powered clock on the wall, and don't wear a watch at all.

That looks like a cracking deal (and I'm using it to distract myself from a CW chrono in the other thread...), but can anyone order via the website? My work PC is letting me add to basket, enter my own details, but then nothing - no 'proceed to payment' options or similar. Is it just my work firewalls or something?
