Just seen someone with a very odd looking watch...

It has a steel bracelet, black face, quite pronounced dots for markers, and a steel case. Around the face it had gold, and in each corner (where it joins the bracelet) there were gold coloured squares (hmm... hard to explain!)

Any ideas?

Nope, you're going to have to do loads of research on the web and show us a picture smile

Hard to tell what make it was. irked

  • Steel bracelet
  • Black face, with round hour markers
  • Steel case with a ring of gold around the face, and a gold square on each shoulder (where the case joins the strap)

Was it someone who would have spent some £££ on a watch ? Was it nice or something Jimmy Saville has buried in the back of the sock drawer ?

No, looked like a decent enough watch. I'd hazard a guess at a Rolex or Omega TBH.

I work in the West End, and this guy was a type hedge fund type - would suggest late 50's, early 60's. Looked old enough to have been at 21st present, so that'd make it a 70s/80s piece.

Could it have been an Audemars Royal Oak something or other or from the Hublot stable?

Sounds a bit like a vintage Raymond Weil dress watch, did you get close enough to guess the size or thickness.

No idea on thickness.

Not in current catalogue of Rolex, RW, Omega or Hublot...

Further digging shows it's an Omega Seamaster Polaris.

Has digital displays too it seems....

Hard to tell which of the top two it was.

Further Googling suggests it may also be know as the "Seamaster Polaris"

Yep, that's the cookie!

Guess it wasn't cheap years ago - now out of fashion and seemingly dirt cheap. Not my cup of tea, but does seem a shame.
