Ok nearly holiday time and need a new G Shock for the beach and pool, my current, White Bathing Ape, has gone yellow and is looking a bit manky and no matter how hard I try and clean it it looks cack !

I like the size of the Bape, but I'm thinking white is not the best colour.

So budget up to 150 spondoolies and post pictures if you can, what would you go for ?

I've been after the black one above for a while now but wanted to see it in the flesh before buying as I was worried about the clarity of the negative screen. Great watch though, one of Time magazines gadgets of the year 2009.

But in the mean time I bought this. It's a limited edition MotoX edition that was only available in the states. Bought it from there for the great price of £50 delivered!! Looks superb with an orange display (even when not lit). Case is slightly darker than the pic in real life but still a mid grey.

That's just the kind of thing I have in mind very nice !! Any ideas where I can get something similar ? Or is it just going to be a case of finding one amongst the usual shopping sites ?

eBay have a couple listed - can anyone confirm if it's battery or solar powered?

I bought it from an ebay seller, iyork_com is his user name.

Or search for this item: 200M Casio G-SHOCK MUDMAN Dual Stopwatch G9000MX-8
Item number: 380162663861

I bought from this guy a month ago and was extremely happy with the service, item came well packaged within a week and it was declared as a gift worth less than $20 so there were no customs charges, came straight to my door.

Retail price is around $99 but he has a best offer button so I offered £50 and got it. Used to be free postage, not sure now.

It's battery powered but that didn't bother me, even solar needs replacing eventually (at a much higher cost)

He usually has some other nice watches so browse his store.

Given the time constraints, I'd steer clear of an Ebay seller called 'Watches-BayUK' if I were you. Ordered a 'Tough Solar' G6900 from them 2.5 weeks ago and not here yet. Still within their 'expected delivery times' from Asia, so I'm not concerned about it yet - just wouldn't fancy your chances of getting one before holiday!

Get yourself a Riseman. Crap name but useful functionality. Dual time, weather prediction via barometric reading, temperature (need to take it off for 30 minutes - useful if you don't wear a watch at night), atomic control. I tend to use it mainly for the weather prediction and accurate time. Comes in blue if you look hard enough.

you need to be very carefull what your looking at. I've got quite a few G-Shocks and I have never seen a new Riseman for £50. The watch you are looking at sounds faker than a fake thing. The only "baby blue" Riseman made is the "men in earth" limited edition and the retail price on that one is £312. A £50 Riseman is FAKE, especially if it's claiming to be the "Men in Earth" version (the only baby blue Riseman).

I was also interested in you saying your bape went yellow? I have a few white G's and none of them have discoloured yellow. How much did you pay for your Bape? A real one will not come in under £200+ ( sometimes approaching double that depending on the colour). The watch the "Bape" is based on is the 6900 which is available in many bright colours called the "Crazy colours" range (blue, purple, pink, green, and white). These are much cheaper and can be picked up most places and are actually very rarely faked.

If you want next day delivery try www.tiktox.com . At present he only has the pink 6900 Crazy colours but at £69 including next day delivery it's very well priced. Keith at Tiktox is very helpfull and can sometimes source the watch your after at a very good price (not connected and all that but happy customer)

Just as an aside, what is it about the Bathing Ape models that causes them to cost £200+? Is it merely fashion / association (I have no idea who / what 'Bathing Ape' represents, so apologies if I'm not in touch with contemporary youth culture, ta) and the watch is the same basic technology in the other G-shocks (atomic, solar, barometer, temperature, time zones, other quartz computer trickery), so Casio are merely cashing in on a trend, or do they have 'special' features, technology or materials? Or did they cost the same as any other G-shock when new but were 'limited editions' and have become popular and sought after, and hence bid-up on the second-hand market?

I've seen some G-shocks modified with gemstones and leather straps and I'm sure that they can be made as expensive as you wish to display… but I didn't think Casio sold them like that.

Don't get me wrong - I'm fully aware that most watches are sold on image, and the right image and reputation plus marketing and supply control can allow completely arbitrary price changes without any change in customer numbers (Rolex's steel Daytona being the poster child for this approach), and I'm making no value judgement here about whether the Bathing Ape G-shocks are worth the money or not, or whether *any* of the G-shocks are good value for money.

I'm not in the market for any G-shock (just don't really like the base design at all, and don't need the level of toughness they possess), but I am curious as to whether Casio have done something special i.e. horologically interesting in the £200 versions, or whether they're just £200 because they're 'limited editions' or some other marketing / fashion thing (in the same vein as that Dreadnought thing and the aforementioned steel Daytona). I'm sure an expert here can tell me - the subject of G-shocks has come up in a huge thread of its own a while ago IIRC, and that thread had a lot of detailed knowledge in it so the PH G-shock fans must know their stuff!

I believe so. It's simply that they are limited edition and nothing more than that I'm afraid.
