Hello
I have a bit of a dilema, I am very near to the top of the list for a SS Daytona which I have always wanted but really like the Hublot big bang. I tried it on at Selfridges yesterday and absolutely love the look but have some reservations.

The chap in Selfridges said that although the Hublot was water resistant to 100m he would only ever recommend swimming with it. When I commented about snorkelling he said that it was a no no. I don't really want to start swapping watches when I do watersports. Also the case looks that it would mark quite easily so would it be suitable to wear daily?

Also like I said I have always wanted a Daytona and long term would be the better bet as it is a classic and will be handed down to my son.

Any thoughts?

Don't buy the Hublot new FFS!

If you're going to buy one, get one from Blowers or or something.

why would you not buy the daytona anyway and either keep or sell at profit and buy the hublot

btw have used my SS daytona whilst diving a number of times, if the hublot really is only "splashproof" that is a bit crap

I would wait for the daytona and flog it, try Dominic H of Hackett watches.

Then I'm sure you'll be able to get hold of a big bang 44mm at a decent price, second hand obviously.

Never ever buy a new Hublot, and haggle when you buy a 2nd hand one. Water is generally accepted to be a bit of a no-no with them from what I was told when buying.

I'd say go for the Daytona personally, couldn't bring myself to pay current list price for one though. Still regret getting rid of my black faced SS.

Thanks for the replies. It is going to have to be the Daytona as I don't want to have to worry about whether my watch is going to get buggered when I am at the coast.

It's just that the wait is killing me now I have been told I am very close to the top...

It's worth the wait for a SS Daytona. I remember getting the call from Mappin & Webb six years ago and the guy on the end of the phone just saying, " Your piece is in Sir, would you like to collect it today?", It took me fifteen miniutes to get over to Fenchurch Street and walked out a very happy man about thirty minutes later.

Sounds good to me but I have just been infornmed by the AD that Rolex are raising their costs next week by 6% which makes the pre-owned ones a bit more atractive!

Buy the Daytona. Mine's a keeper until the holy grail black omega dial 6263 Daytona is found. I regret selling my black dial Daytona frown but I've kept my white dial Daytona.

Special note: Accept either black or white face when you get the call. Rolex will change the dial to another for a small fee (I think it really was only £50 back in 2007).

Purchase prices are crazy now I guess to slow the trading. Blowers sell a lot of Daytonas at cost plus still. I paid about £3670 for each of mine in 2006.

If you like the Hublot, you really need to consider a used AP ROO

The Daytona waiting list appears to be a myth. The AD in my home town (Middle East) recieved 5 SS's 2 weeks ago. It was the usual 'we have one in the safe'. It was his able bodied assistant who let the number in the safe slip.

I tried one in Selfridges and really wanted to like it, but I just can't can't get on with the numbers. I think I am just going to have to wait until the Daytona comes in.
