Why don't one of you enterprising types create a UK Parnis/Tao presence?
It would be worth looking in to, wanna be partners? biggrin

I shouldn't imagine it's going to be a multi-million pound corporation requiring a board of directors and annual shareholder meetings... just buy a load, knock up a website and Bob's yer uncle, surely? Why wouldn't I do it? Because I have not had real first hand experience of that precise brand (apart from one that had died during transit), I haven't explored drop shipping and I have no ebay account.

Surely you'd need to contact the manufacturer directly or order in bulk to obtain some sort of wholesale price? Might need some contacts and a lot of expendable cash!

In the UK though at say £80-100 they are still a bargain though and would likely be very easy to sell.
It's a good point Ninja... PH business anyone?!

Well, I am not so childish as you...

...ok yes, I thought exactly this, too. whistle

Good... now get on with it and stop wasting your time on here!! If you want to bounce ideas about, feel free to PM me. I'm too lazy to bother setting up a business such as that so won't become a rival; I can provide marketing ideas and am a watch geek, too.

...... I have suspicions that the likes if Parnis, Tao and certainly Mansubishi (sp ?) are heavily involved in the less desirable side of watch manufacturing.

I had the Breitling clone on the other page complete with the B logo on the crown. Lots of sterile dial sub homages come through with the Rolex logo on the crown too.

Alpha USA died after trying such a thing too.

Chances of me actually doing it are very slim - I don't have huge amounts of money to start with. But it's tempting to spend a few hundred quid getting a dozen in, taking some good photos and some good spiel on Ebay rather than the Chinglish, and seeing if there's a margin in it.

Worst case scenario you take them down the market and flog them to one of the guys running stalls full of knock-offs...

Yes, no doubt, they're the same factories; just compare the genuine and a homage... far too many similarities. At least Rotary make something obviously different in their non-homage homages. biggrin

What do you mean regarding Alpha USA?

A guy in the States took Alpha watches and launched himself as Alpha USA. He had a decent following on Watchuseek. He came up with the Carbon a few folk have been posting on here, but things went a bit sour and they ended up selling the Carbon direct.

IIRC he offered Alpha USA as a going concern, I'm on my phone so I'm struggling to dig a link out for the full story.

Have a Google for 'Perpetual Watches'. They look good, and fairly original.designs too. They are based in Hong Kong, don't think their site has been updated for a while though.

Getat watches are very good quality, he gets really busy though and lead times get really slow at times.

Have a look for the Chinese Mechanical Forum section on Watchuseek. It's a treasure trove of Oriental cheapness.

I know this much; just wondering if the reason for the finish was made public.

Yes, but you'll notice I waited until 16 past to take the photo to hide the Parnis...

I don't exactly wear it with pride but for £25 it's a proper bargain.
