indeed! Blimey. Looks very much like a big boiler from a nuclear power station, a serious lump of metal that for sure! They usually weigh in at round the thick end of the 350-400 ton mark!
Theres a specialist firm by the name of ALE Heavy Lift (Abnormal Load Engineering) who take on moves of super hefty equipment similar to that over here and overseas. They run a very interesting fleet of obscure machinery including mighty ex army Unipower 8x4 heavy tractor and a couple of Faun prime movers on their front line. The Unipower in particular is a unit i'd love to see on the road!
See here for a few of their mega moves - http://www.ale-heavylift.com/case-studies/
This is one of my absolute fave heavy haulage related vids on Youtube - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRfn9xxZJiU&lis...
Get a proper look at a rear steer multi bogey lowloader in action here. Great vid!

There is a rather large crane, but not too much else.
Although it does look good when lit up at night - may even pop over myself.....
I saw the crane at work on one of the turbines from between Gt Paxton and the Offords the other afternoon. Can only imagine the logisitics of working on constructing a site like that, the sheer scale of it must be mahoosive! Although it does look good when lit up at night - may even pop over myself.....
I wouldn't mind having a look too!...
Perhaps not *quite* as large as the previous one if i'm nitpicking, but another fairly sizeable Fairline yacht wended its way past early on Monday afternoon! -
The BiB put in a rolling block a little further up the road so the load could pass under the bridge unhindered (There always seems to be some knob in a white van who tries to cut 'em up!...)
Coming direct from Oundle, i've just seen someone else picked a few shots off of this rig up passing along a residential road in central Cambridge!
Also very pleased to pick up the brand new Stobart Elite Dream R500 on te same afternoon too -
The WS on the reg (62 reg underneath) is most likely William Stobarts innitials i'd most likely suspect! Crackin looking unit.

Nice analogy on the blades Lol!
Yeah, Gt Paxton and Toseland in particular could have problems! Was reading in the local rag earlier that theres 8 turbines in particular planned to go up. Not sure how many there are up at the moment, but i could be rewarded with the sight of more components being transported soon though!
I see theres another proposal for another wind farm to be put up in Southoe too. Think they're undergoing a bit of planning hell at the moment though, don't think the public consultation went too well!...

Serious stuff there!! Have you been up to the site yet? I see another one has popped up on the hill now...
Not yet, but i would very much like to go and have a look up close!...Went through Gt Staughton on the way back to Neotnam this afternoon and noticed the silhouette of them sticking out in the distance from the B645!

Had a run up around the site this afternoon. Crikey, you weren't kidding, they're HUGE!!
Managed to find a spot to grab a few snaps by the side of the road -
Interesting to note the beast of a crane being used to erect the turbines is a McNallys unit. An Irish based crane/ballast specialist. That'll explain why i saw a few of their trucks on the A1 a couple of months back!

Hi James
Same place, same time today.
Anything interesting today? Love the wind turbine photos BTW.
Cheers Andy, good to see you sir! Same place, same time today.

I was asked to go out an photograph something specific today (Happening more and more now i have a Facebook page!) one of RJCs big Volvos (FH16 550) transporting an 80 ton 625 piling rig from London-Linclon, but the driver got held up at the site apparently and he only just got out of South Mimms an hour or so ago!...
Plenty of other things around. Saw one of Leicesters 200 ton 6x4 DAFs too (Was Oundle-London bound with a 66 ton bit of machinery on for a big night move IIRC) which was nice
Got an early sesh planned for tomorrow too as Leicester will be back again, this time with a 90 odd ton 38M crane part loaded up that needs a photo taken apparently! Being given updates on that, so hopefull all should go to plan this time!... :fingerscrossed:
Glad you liked the windfarm pics, was a bit late in the day when i stopped by, but they sure do stand out! Would make a great photo with a sunset or a nice car posed in front i think...

These are good fun to try and manoeuvre in our small yard!
Nice! Yeah, those wagon and drag units take some driving for sure! Certainly need to be very skilled to navigate tight yards with one, especially if you need to blindside it on the way out!...
They can be just as tricky out on the road too. The rear trailer when empty is lighter than the truck so they can act like a sail sometimes in windy conditions!...

Those turbines are awesome, you should stand at the bottom of one when its working!
The sound the blades make is amazing.
When they built some just outside Kettering I managed to get to the bottom of them before any fences were put in and had a photo shoot there for Total Vauxhall magazine with the car parked under them

I was waiting for some photos to be taken near or around the turbines, maybe this will be the new graffiti wall ????
Hi James, did you see the other turbine go past just after lunch?
Good idea on the turbines! theres a few spots along the road from the Offords - Graveley which could be suitable for a scenic shot or two... Hi James, did you see the other turbine go past just after lunch?
I thought the other day that those turbines could make a great backdrop for any harvest pics i may take out that way in the summer also!
Was this the part you saw after lunch Andy? -
Its a nacelle, the headstock of the turbine the blades slot onto. Collett have been moving all the big components up to Graveley it seems.
Was well pleased today. I specifically went out early as the driver of this said he'd be coming through! -
Leicester Heavy Haulage MAN TGX 680 V8 pulling a 38m 90 odd ton traverser designed to move locos left to right onto different tracks on a 6 axle Nooteboom splitty!
That truck is quite special as it was the very first RHD 680 TGX to go into service in this country
