I thought i'd seen that number plate before i mentioned it to my mate funny enough! Yer the aerobatics were insane a plane shouldn't be able to move like that. how did you become an instructor? it's something i would love to do one day but i understand theres a lot of people wanting to do it with far more experience than me, and because of that i don't get to gain any myself, any advice?

MATE!!! it was her car but she was off lookin 'gawjus' somewhere else!! was a male Racing driver who took us out in it, christ the speed he threw that thing round the track was insane!!! and u still got the impression that he weren't givin it 100%, mainly beacuse he was giving other drivers the thumbs up as he went past lol!! the car was actually skipping through the corners at certain point s on the track and i've never seen someones feet move so quickly on the pedals. so impressive! u driven the Abarth 500 70?
Ben, I assume you were at Rockingham on Saturday for the Abarth corporate event?, I was one of the instructors working that day, not on the Abarths but my job was with the Ferraris for that particular session. The airshow was rather impressive!
It was my GT-R parked a few yards away from where you were based for the Abarth passenger rides.

I've lost count the number of times customers have said, " this must be the best job on the world", actually it's rubbish! I was up at 5.30am, drove to Rockingham in the dark, signed on and listened to the same briefing I've heard for the last eight years then drove the Fezza down and filled it up with fuel. Spent about 10 mins on track warming it up then sat in the passenger seat for four hours until the flying display started, during this I had to refuel the car and eat my lunch in the 30 mins break. I then sat in the car for another four hours, after that I went and filled up again and parked the car up. I went through a total of 33 customers, most were reasonably competent, only a few tried to kill me and themselves! I got home at 7.15 had something to eat and went to bed. On Sunday I got up and did it all over again but this time I did at least have a nice car with comfortable seats and most important of all an excellent traction control, thank you Audi (R8). At least if the customers tried to overcome the laws of physics the Audi gave me a sporting chance!
Best job in the world ?

Yes, lots of times but we've never hit anything solid! Worst case scenario is instructing in a Lotus Elise in the damp, I also had the rear suspension break on an Elise when I was doing high speed passenger laps at Donington, arrived at the chicane and hit the brakes and the car swapped ends at about 130 mph. As far as I'm concerned all Lotus Elise should be burnt on a one big bonfire.

Yer lol i've heard that many times before and i can totally get why it's not a great as it first sounds, but at the end of the day I'm looking for work to fund my own automotive interets, like building my car, and just generally funding my life to be honest. im just jumping between small jobs at the moment while i wait for my Army officer aplication to go through (which could take a long time). so i'm trying to gain experience within the industry im going to want to be a part of when i one day leave the Army so i don't end up being stuffed for work one day down the line. so any experience i can gain just to get a foot in the door would be amazing for me so any advice any one can offer truely is apreciated

Race instructors are licenced by ARDS, you need to have held a race licence for a significant period and at a suitable level and have a CRB check. You then take an instructor test at an ARDS recognised school, this consists of driving a school car with a senior instructor sat next to you and carrying out an " instruction" commentary to an imaginary student. If you pass you apply to the RAC MSA for an ARDS licence which is graded, you usually start off at a C grade. You can get upgraded in a similar manner to a race licence by obtaining signatures and fulfilling certain criteria such as holding a first aid qualification and being capable of doing certain roles such as taking briefings etc at the venue. Many of the instructors work for different race schools / venues and also work with manufacturers on car launches and dealer days. I'm not sure if it has now changed but Palmer was the only team that used instructors that were not ARDS qualified, all the other schools were in the ARDS system.
