Traffic/number plate recognition/ whatever cameras everywhere today, all entries to Bishops Stortford, A120 Albury and Standon and A10 overbridges on the Ware/ High Cross by passes and that's only the places I have been today. Whats going on?

I noticed this coming out of Ware this evening on my way home. My thoughts were something to do with monitoring the volume of traffic but could be way off.

I saw them a few weeks ago between on the A10 to Cambridge and A505 to Duxford. My guess is some form of temporary traffic survey.
