Good afternoon PHers,

A work colleague of mine has recently bought a 2004 Mercedes C Class, and is looking to give it a good service. As I only work in Northwood Mon-Fri my local knowledge isn't too great, so was a little stumped when he asked for suggestions!

I look forward to hearing your recommendations.

(Apologies that the description of vehicle is vague, as he hasn't given the best description to me!)

Having used them, I'd stay as far away as possible.

I know a guy who works in their wheel/tyre dept and things between Mercedes head office and that dealer have been strained for some time.

Also, my mums car went in for a standard service and mot - quoted around £500 which was fine.

She went to pick it up and was presented with a £2.5k bill.

They'd very kindly done a lot of work on the car to rectify an MOT fail.

Biggest issue was that it didn't fail. They were advisories.

Stuff like £75 to replace the number plates as the rear one had a bit of water ingress around the outside.

Replacing all 4 tyres as one had a damaged side wall and Mercedes say that they should all match.

And extortionate work for some other advisories.

Worst point being they didn't call her to ask about the work or give her any notification they were doing it. The service department seemed nonplussed when she questioned the bill too.

Ended up going to Mercedes uk and they dealt with it - she only paid the original quoted price.
